Some of the worst crimes were commited by local serbs.

Our neighbour of 10 years brought to our neihgbourhood two trucks of paramilitary units to 'clean' us out in 99.

Few days later he had shot a mentally ill / homeless albanian that used to wander around our neighbourhood.

I am sure though that he is one of the K.Serbs that complains about not being able to return, having his house taken (he actually sold it), and being 'ethnicly cleansed'.

There were cases of K.serbs helping out albanians to protect them from the serb forces.... but very rarely.

Wrong B92, KPS was there as was EULEX. Many, many, many arrests are expected. Finally some justice for the 12,000 dead and god knows how many wounded and traumatized.

Next thing you will say that these suspectr are being held in EULEX Detention Center.
I am trying to loctae where EULEX has build their own detention.
Of course KP was along with eulex police in this operation. aRTA IS RIGHT.

Kosovo-USA, you are even less credible than I thought possible. KPS in fact was NOT involved in this aside from the TWO personnel taking evidence. It was entirely EULEX who did the investigation and conducted the arrests. Of course when it was all over AFTER the interviews, the suspects were handed over to KPS. Do a little checking with your so-called friends here and you will see KPS was left out of all this. EULEX will mention that this was a "group effort" with KFOR and KPS to make everyone happy though, so clearly you two can take some solace in this information.

I think it funny that you claim to "know" this from your cozy position in the United States. There should be some more arrests of Albanian suspects coming soon too, and I can assure you that KPS will be playing no critical role in them either.

If these people are proven guilty (proven by western standards and not some Albanian pointing a finger at them) then they should be punished accordingly.

I only wish that EULEX gets off their behinds and starts solving murders of Serbs AFTER the war up to just the other day. It's amazing how they can produce evidence of something which happened 10 years ago but they cannot find one shread of evidence against anyone to solve those murders of Serbs.

Maybe solving these murders is not even on the list, let alone a priority.

You forgot that Serbian police during the 1999 organised free trips for Albanians to go to swim in Serbian river...and later were found floating...probably Serbian police forgot to ask them whether they know how to swim...

There was not 12,000 dead at all - even factoring all of the missing. And that number is counting a 3 years period which includes the AFTERMATH when the KLA was murdering Serbs, Roma and Albanian rivals.

Additionally the number includes THOUSANDS OF KLA killed during the war.

Plus you had the dead Serbian policeman whose bodies were seen all over towards the end of the war when NATO and KLA came in and there were hundreds of Albanians in Kosovo who were killed by NATO bombing and cluster bombing.

NATO killed 86 Albanian civilians in one convoy bombing in mid April 1999. There were other convoy bombings, bus bombings, Albanian encampment bombings and cluster bombs on parts of Pristina which killed Albanians.

Notice no NATO personnel are ever arrested for the thousands they killed in the Balkans or died while they were in charge of Kosovo.

Instead of a one-way pity party like you apparently suggest in your comment, how about stories of suffering and sacrifice are shared between Serbian and Albanian families? I am assuming by your use of "Kosovars" you are in fact referring only to Albanians since you ended your comment with a little rib to Belgrade.

Obviously someone like you who has said in the past that they are in favor of democracy and moving forward would be in favor of promoting an understanding that everyone, at some point over the last 20 years, have suffered loss of family members, loss of property, distrust of neighbors, and a loss in overall quality of life. Wouldn't it be better if both sides shared stories in order to show that idiocy reigns across nations and identities, and wouldn't it actually try to promote a collective understanding that exclusionary nationalism produces nothing in the end? I'm sure you know Albanians do not monopolize victimhood and Serbs monopolize brutality.

Don’t take my word for this fact but read what the then Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said in 2006 when Israel was criticised for attacking Lebanon, quote “Where do they get the right to lecture Israel. EU countries killed 10,000 civilians and none of those countries had been the target of any missiles”. Opps! What a terrible thing to do and reveal the truth.

KosovoUSA - Hahahaha, I hit a raw nerve there I think. You know, and I know, in fact we all know that the Albo's started the war and the US and EU decided to help you because it was in their interests, NOT for humanitarian reasons.

As for Serbia getting smaller, Albo's should be careful what they wish for. Since the US is backing the Albo's in Kosovo at the moment, you think you can rule the whole region but to do so you think you should take all "Albanian lands" which are in Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia and Greece according to you. I really, really hope you succeed in trying because even America will not be able to prevent the Albanian nation from being pushed into an area the size of a shoebox. I honestly think this shows how foolish Serbs were to sign that cooperation deal with EULEX. Remember how EULEX released the terrorist bus bomber who killed almost a dozen Serbs, including a small child.

Unfortunately, Serbs think that signing of the deal was a good thing because Albanians got all hyped upset (or pretended to be upset about it), but in reality it is something that I doubt is sincerely good for Serbs.

Neither Kosovo-usa nor arta has provided links to support any of the claims that they have made in the past. Believe me that no one is taking you seriously! I must say that I was born in America and I am proud to be an American. But, I agree with you 1000%... and to correct you just a little, we do not need the Albanians here in Kosovo. You are right, the war here and in Bosnia was not a Humanitarian war, The reaseon America backed Albo's and muslims was strictly because of money and oil... We were billions of dollars in debt to the Saudi's...and what was the best way to repay them? Thats right... help them establish a muslim state... Now make no mistake, I have worked in Kosovo going for 5 years and saw almost every report made... Atrocities were committed on both sides. As for yesterdays arrests in Novo Brdo? If there's some evidence, start a case. If they're responding to Albanian finger-pointing, let them go. As easy as that. I see the Albanians are posting propaganda the NATO sponsored groups wrote for/with them.

Note there are no pictures of bodies floating on the Danube - a major river traffic region. And the alleged site is right near the Bulgarian border. There would have been bodies floating to Bulgaria - if so.

There's never any photos of that (nor satellite photos of the alleged truck). The alleged truck has never been proven to exist. They conveniently wrote it was blown up. But not even pieces or parts of it.

Also, a sealed refrigerator truck would not sink but would float. And if it got water in it that would mean that all identity cards - which are paper - would have been destroyed.

Note that there's no autopsy records which would prove how a person/people were killed and would prove if the bodies were ever in water, etc.

NONE of that evidence is ever presented.

Note also that the bodies were ALLEGEDLY "found" the day Milosevic was sent to the Hague when the NATO powers had been saying they wanted Serbs to support and approve the extradiction.

Note at the time a puppet and anti-Milosevic government was installed which would play the game with NATO powers to falsely frame Milosevic.

Note there were/are never any photos of the alleged mass grave site with any bodies shown. Nor were any foreign investigators interested in going there.

Lastly, I've never seen the name of any woman/female or child on the list of bodies allegedly "handed over".

They are all men's names. I feel they were recycled KLA. Bodies found by the UN, then after Milosevic's fall and the puppet government installed. They got certain traitorous elements in the security forces and government to agree to take some of these bodies, claim they were found in a mass grave, while merely handing them to Serbian institutions for identification and autopsies.

I repeat, I've never seen one single report of a woman or child's body being handed over even though the claim was that they were all civilians.

Further, actual autopsy evidence and findings are not made available at all.

Plus there's the fact that even in the atrocity propaganda, it all took place AFTER NATO started bombing and wasn't going on before. As well the refugees only poured out after NATO bombed 24/7.

Before NATO bombing it was a relatively low level civil war started by the KLA.

The KLA started the first killings to spark the war. Therefore they are the most responsible.

The KLA and CIA's plan was to have the Serbian police crackdown so there'd be an excuse for intervention.

Any dead Albanians served as sacrifices to get the end product they wanted all along - Kosovo to themselves.

I am no supporter of EULEX and I wouldn't be surprised if they continue with the ethnic cleansing campaign previously run by UNMIK and NATO but I will be expecting many many more arrests of our ethnic Albanian citizens. So many unpunished crimes against Serbians have been swept under the carpet and if EULEX wants to earn a grain of credibility it will need to act soon.

This was noNATO propaganda but true facts and many bodies, even though not all have been turned over and returned to Kosova. I feel sorry that most Serbs live in state of denial to this day.

No matter if those four had really been involved to the civil war mentioned the arrest follows quite a different task. They just need a pretext to prolong the agony of the Haague Tribunal. They feel very comfortable with their suddenly obtained high salaries and rankings. Also they need Serbia and Serbs being under permanent prosecution untill a will to resist their national dignity is not buried. Meanwhile the only real source of such suspects is Kosovo and only Kosovo ! God bless the B92 moderators ! Reading the comments on one article yesterday I really had a hang over and couldn't believe what I was reading and today it starts again!

These last few days so much hatry was poored on each side and I find it really disgusting.

People might have a difference in opinion but I think that some out of proportion nationalistic comments should be simply banned and I wish B92 would start doing so.

A lot's of new posters started a war of words that will only bring more hatry and will bring the quality of this blog down to irrelevance.

BELGRADE, Serbia (AP) - Seventeen former Kosovo rebels went on trial Wednesday before the Serbian war crimes court, charged with murder, rape and torture of Serb civilians in 1999.

Nine of the men were arrested in December in a predominantly Albanian-populated region of Serbia bordering Kosovo. Eight of the suspects are at large and were accused in absentia.

The indictment accuses the men of the kidnapping of 153 Serbs and the deaths of at least 80 of them in the eastern Kosovo town of Gnjilane following Kosovo's war for independence.

They are charged with "murder, rape, detention, mutilation, torture and looting," the indictment said. The charges carry up to 20 years in jail.

Bruno Vekaric, the spokesman for Serbia's war crimes prosecution, said the trial brings with it a "high risk" of retaliation by Albanians against the Serbs and other witnesses who still live in the region.

The war in Kosovo - then a province of Serbia - began with an ethnic Albanian separatist rebellion and ended after a 78-day NATO bombing campaign that forced Serbia's army and police to pull out of Kosovo.

After the war ended, the suspects allegedly launched retaliatory attacks against the Serb minority in Kosovo, where 90 percent of the population is ethnic Albanian.

Kosovo's independence has been recognized by many countries including the U.S. and most EU states - but not by Serbia or Russia.

In a related development, Serbian police said they found a large weapons cache in the tense south of the country near the border with Macedonia.

Interior Minister Ivica Dacic, who heads the police, said Wednesday the weapons included two rocket launchers, anti-tank mines, 16 grenades, a machine gun and ammunition.

Dacic said the weapons were discovered in a pit on state property about 300 meters (yards) from the Macedonian border.

Serbia's south, which borders Macedonia and Kosovo, was the scene of an ethnic Albanian rebellion in 2000-2001. The unrest ended in a peace plan but tensions have simmered since.

Hh.... Mayby You forgot who started war. I will remember it. That was UCK in february 1996, when they started attack against Police and against CIVILIANS (between 1996 and 1998 they killed 5 policeman and 17 CIVILIANS).

At the request of a EULEX prosecutor conducting a criminal investigation into committed in April 1999, the EULEX Police War Crimes Investigation Unit (WCIU) carried out an operation today in the municipality of Novo Brdo/Novobërdë, in the region of Gjilan/Gnjilane. The operation started at 6 AM.

Four people were arrested.

Slobodan M.
Srecko M.
Svetlana S.
Sredjan F.

All four suspects are of Serbian ethnicity.

The charges relate to alleged inhuman treatment; immense suffering or violation of bodily integrity or health; application of measures of intimidation and terror, and illegal arrest and detention.

During the search of the suspects' premises, several items were seized.

Under order of the prosecutor, a fifth person was also arrested at the scene, for obstruction of official duty.

The interviews of the suspects are ongoing.

Both the Kosovo police (KP) and KFOR took part in the operation.

Few days later he had shot a mentally ill / homeless albanian that used to wander around our neighbourhood.

I am sure though that he is one of the K.Serbs that complains about not being able to return, having his house taken (he actually sold it), and being 'ethnicly cleansed'.

There were cases of K.serbs helping out albanians to protect them from the serb forces.... but very rarely.

There was not 12,000 dead at all - even factoring all of the missing. And that number is counting a 3 years period which includes the AFTERMATH when the KLA was murdering Serbs, Roma and Albanian rivals.

Additionally the number includes THOUSANDS OF KLA killed during the war.

Plus you had the dead Serbian policeman whose bodies were seen all over towards the end of the war when NATO and KLA came in and there were hundreds of Albanians in Kosovo who were killed by NATO bombing and cluster bombing.

NATO killed 86 Albanian civilians in one convoy bombing in mid April 1999. There were other convoy bombings, bus bombings, Albanian encampment bombings and cluster bombs on parts of Pristina which killed Albanians.

Notice no NATO personnel are ever arrested for the thousands they killed in the Balkans or died while they were in charge of Kosovo.

I think Serbian protokol with EULEX is producing its first results...and this is just the beginning...

We trust Thaci when he says that PRACTICALLY anything that internationals sign in post 1999 era is conducive to peace, stability and the consolodation of the Republic of Kosovo.

We were not let down this time either.

Signature for proper installation of Kosovo Customs in port/station 1 & 31 are next. Dacic and Jeremic will mark this event another victory.

Kosovo-USA, you are even less credible than I thought possible. KPS in fact was NOT involved in this aside from the TWO personnel taking evidence. It was entirely EULEX who did the investigation and conducted the arrests. Of course when it was all over AFTER the interviews, the suspects were handed over to KPS. Do a little checking with your so-called friends here and you will see KPS was left out of all this. EULEX will mention that this was a "group effort" with KFOR and KPS to make everyone happy though, so clearly you two can take some solace in this information.

I think it funny that you claim to "know" this from your cozy position in the United States. There should be some more arrests of Albanian suspects coming soon too, and I can assure you that KPS will be playing no critical role in them either.

I see the Albanians are posting propaganda the NATO sponsored groups wrote for/with them.

Note there are no pictures of bodies floating on the Danube - a major river traffic region. And the alleged site is right near the Bulgarian border. There would have been bodies floating to Bulgaria - if so.

There's never any photos of that (nor satellite photos of the alleged truck). The alleged truck has never been proven to exist. They conveniently wrote it was blown up. But not even pieces or parts of it.

Also, a sealed refrigerator truck would not sink but would float. And if it got water in it that would mean that all identity cards - which are paper - would have been destroyed.

Note that there's no autopsy records which would prove how a person/people were killed and would prove if the bodies were ever in water, etc.

NONE of that evidence is ever presented.

Note also that the bodies were ALLEGEDLY "found" the day Milosevic was sent to the Hague when the NATO powers had been saying they wanted Serbs to support and approve the extradiction.

Note at the time a puppet and anti-Milosevic government was installed which would play the game with NATO powers to falsely frame Milosevic.

Note there were/are never any photos of the alleged mass grave site with any bodies shown. Nor were any foreign investigators interested in going there.

Lastly, I've never seen the name of any woman/female or child on the list of bodies allegedly "handed over".

They are all men's names. I feel they were recycled KLA. Bodies found by the UN, then after Milosevic's fall and the puppet government installed. They got certain traitorous elements in the security forces and government to agree to take some of these bodies, claim they were found in a mass grave, while merely handing them to Serbian institutions for identification and autopsies.

I repeat, I've never seen one single report of a woman or child's body being handed over even though the claim was that they were all civilians.

Further, actual autopsy evidence and findings are not made available at all.

Plus there's the fact that even in the atrocity propaganda, it all took place AFTER NATO started bombing and wasn't going on before. As well the refugees only poured out after NATO bombed 24/7.

Before NATO bombing it was a relatively low level civil war started by the KLA.

The KLA started the first killings to spark the war. Therefore they are the most responsible.

The KLA and CIA's plan was to have the Serbian police crackdown so there'd be an excuse for intervention.

Any dead Albanians served as sacrifices to get the end product they wanted all along - Kosovo to themselves.

So entire families slaughtered is A-OKAY as long as they are Albanians? WOW!!

Obviously someone like you who has said in the past that they are in favor of democracy and moving forward would be in favor of promoting an understanding that everyone, at some point over the last 20 years, have suffered loss of family members, loss of property, distrust of neighbors, and a loss in overall quality of life. Wouldn't it be better if both sides shared stories in order to show that idiocy reigns across nations and identities, and wouldn't it actually try to promote a collective understanding that exclusionary nationalism produces nothing in the end? I'm sure you know Albanians do not monopolize victimhood and Serbs monopolize brutality.

At the request of a EULEX prosecutor conducting a criminal investigation into committed in April 1999, the EULEX Police War Crimes Investigation Unit (WCIU) carried out an operation today in the municipality of Novo Brdo/Novobërdë, in the region of Gjilan/Gnjilane. The operation started at 6 AM.

Four people were arrested.

Svetlana S.
Sredjan F.

All four suspects are of Serbian ethnicity.

The charges relate to alleged inhuman treatment; immense suffering or violation of bodily integrity or health; application of measures of intimidation and terror, and illegal arrest and detention.

During the search of the suspects' premises, several items were seized.

Under order of the prosecutor, a fifth person was also arrested at the scene, for obstruction of official duty.

The interviews of the suspects are ongoing.

Both the Kosovo police (KP) and KFOR took part in the operation.

I am no supporter of EULEX and I wouldn't be surprised if they continue with the ethnic cleansing campaign previously run by UNMIK and NATO but I will be expecting many many more arrests of our ethnic Albanian citizens. So many unpunished crimes against Serbians have been swept under the carpet and if EULEX wants to earn a grain of credibility it will need to act soon.

Hh.... Mayby You forgot who started war. I will remember it. That was UCK in february 1996, when they started attack against Police and against CIVILIANS (between 1996 and 1998 they killed 5 policeman and 17 CIVILIANS).

In 1998 UCK started offensive in Kosovo, killed until end of August 74 police officers and 81 CIVILIANS, gained control over 30% of province and started ethnic cleansings.

BELGRADE, Serbia (AP) - Seventeen former Kosovo rebels went on trial Wednesday before the Serbian war crimes court, charged with murder, rape and torture of Serb civilians in 1999.

Nine of the men were arrested in December in a predominantly Albanian-populated region of Serbia bordering Kosovo. Eight of the suspects are at large and were accused in absentia.

The indictment accuses the men of the kidnapping of 153 Serbs and the deaths of at least 80 of them in the eastern Kosovo town of Gnjilane following Kosovo's war for independence.

They are charged with "murder, rape, detention, mutilation, torture and looting," the indictment said. The charges carry up to 20 years in jail.

Bruno Vekaric, the spokesman for Serbia's war crimes prosecution, said the trial brings with it a "high risk" of retaliation by Albanians against the Serbs and other witnesses who still live in the region.

The war in Kosovo - then a province of Serbia - began with an ethnic Albanian separatist rebellion and ended after a 78-day NATO bombing campaign that forced Serbia's army and police to pull out of Kosovo.

After the war ended, the suspects allegedly launched retaliatory attacks against the Serb minority in Kosovo, where 90 percent of the population is ethnic Albanian.

Kosovo's independence has been recognized by many countries including the U.S. and most EU states - but not by Serbia or Russia.

In a related development, Serbian police said they found a large weapons cache in the tense south of the country near the border with Macedonia.

Interior Minister Ivica Dacic, who heads the police, said Wednesday the weapons included two rocket launchers, anti-tank mines, 16 grenades, a machine gun and ammunition.

Dacic said the weapons were discovered in a pit on state property about 300 meters (yards) from the Macedonian border.

Serbia's south, which borders Macedonia and Kosovo, was the scene of an ethnic Albanian rebellion in 2000-2001. The unrest ended in a peace plan but tensions have simmered since.
