However it is a pathetic waste of words to claim Kosovo will once be a "full fledged member of NATO". Kosovo is a US/ NATO base and colony.A tiniest territory with the biggest US military base outside the US. How can you become more NATO than this?
(veki, 20 September 2009 03:17)

That is so funny I just choked on my Coke Zero. "Camp" Bondsteel is most likely the smallest military area outside of the US besides maybe little Forward Operating Bases in Iraq or Afghanistan. Want to see the biggest, you probably could try England, Germany, Italy, Spain, Iceland, the Netherlands, Hungary, Korea, Japan, Guam, or any number of others. Trust me, I've been to a lot of them, including Bondsteel, and its a speck compared to even the smaller bases and facilities in these areas. Heck, it doesn't even have a runway.

Perhaps it is you who should come clean here.

I'll take this as a compliment for my English... lol...

Veki!
Where did you come up with that info about Kosovo having the biggest american base outside of of US borders?! South Korea has fifty thousand americans there. Japan has thirty thousand and Germany has 150.000.
I'll let you find out how many kosovo has.!!!
So please stop misinforming the public.

first time, I didn´t read the comments before posting my own one.

only two remarks:

does the US-administration really feel the need to tell the k-albanians lies of this magnitude???

and furthermore... do the k-albanians really believe THAT???

if it were not that sad, how they are being duped, I would only post " LOL "...

I strongly encourage you to reveal your Serbian origins and not to hide behind Mike, Jason and just occasionally and unwillingly with “your countryman, our holy land” reveal that you are Serbs. You should not be ashamed to say that you are Serbs say it clearly.
(ben, 19 September 2009 20:39)

Mike has never given us an impression that he was not of Serbian stock, unlike you who keep telling us how American you are.

'Kosovo to join Nato !!!!
Yes i would like to see that,What are they going to contribute ''Bureks '''

For a start, Kosovo can provide for its own defense, after KFOR withdraws and the rules are changed to allow the protection force to convert to an army (5 years). As for participation in NATO, it will probably provide a specific service, maybe in logistics, just as the Czechs for example provide field hospitals and NBC (nucl-biol-chem) teams. (In Iraq and Afghanistan, it's the Americans and Brits who provide the cannon fodder.)

TITO,
Your assessment is partially correct. The only problem is that is a two way road and Kosovo is road out of the hell that Milosevic put it in.
As far as why Americans are supporting that, the question should be WHY NOT?

Ok there's still time, it's been a slow morning and i've not read the sunday papers yet, but that has got to be the funniest thing i've read so far this week!

EU does not spell US no matter which way you write it.

I know my own country will continue its little puppy dog barking for US policy but if he thinks Germany & France will put up with the US trying to dilute their own economic influence further (promoting of US dependants like Turkey et al), then he's having a laugh.

There's more chance of the Aussies joining the EU at the moment lol.

The President Bush GW said Turkey should be a part of the EU. Where is Turkey now? Turkey has the largest Army in Europe but still cannot breach the halls of the EU. Now Kosovo who has 70 percent unemployment and basically no infrastructure how can they be choosen over Turkey. Mr Dell should stick to building computers.

coys

You want to see just suffering and pain! You are judging things from the wring perspective. Not all K-Albanians are criminals, and murderers. I further believe that not all Serbs are killers as we can easy presume that since Serbia killed more than any other country in EU since WW II. Dont stigmatize a nation, stop your prejudices as propaganda is an old tool that everyone should get over it.

veki

yes right Kosovo road to EU is going to be an epic enterprise.

I find the Serbian comments funny, really: First Serbian police and military burn everything to the ground, steal bank accounts, pensions and then say the economy is bad.

Read this first too:
"Serbians have the lowest salaries and least purchasing power of Balkan residents covered by a four-state survey, conducted by the Croatian branch of Nielsen analysis group. The average monthly salary in Serbia is €348. In Bosnia and Herzegovina the average is €407 per month, followed by €730 in Croatia. Slovenians earn the most on average at €922 per month."

Now imagine how much lower it would be without Vojvodina! Can you really make fun of others? B92, publish this

TITO

As it stands now Kosovo has only one road and that is road to hell. Lets stop pretending, non Albanians live in ghetos, there is no economy but handouts, 70% unemployment, non existing Borders, rampant crime and prostitution and God knows what else....in other words non functioning state! Only God knows why Americans support this monster

reality

pre 14 godina

General Serb banter on here I see. You guys seriously need to get over Kosovo's independence. Can't you see what the propaganda is achieving? As long as Kosovo remains on the agenda, corrupt leaders will continue to get away with daylight robbery, whilst your economy is in a state of shambles and your "proud" nation continues to be left behind.

Ataman

I read that two times and there is not a single word anyone would object. Mr. Dell is probably an excellent diplomat.

MikeC, in all likelihood, this is a direct response to the statements of USIP in an attempt to diffuse what is undoubtedly going to result in increased tension between the "you promised us the world" camp in Pristina and the "c'mon, did you really believe everything we said?" camp in Washington.

The EU might not be out of reach!! If the Lisbon treaty is enacted, EU decisions are majority voted, which would imply that kosovo could join the EU but only after the EU changed it's own rules - i.e. that members have to be UN members also, unless they dictate to Serbia that a condition of entering the EU will be to recognise Kosovo.

As for NATO admission, I'd assume that is similar to EU admission - do you have to be a UN member to be part of NATO (does anyone know) ?

As the Chinese say, we live in interesting times. let's see how it pans out.

His 'countryman' was a private person, and as you have surely noted here, Americans frequently hold opinions that differ from those of the government and from each other. I suppose that calling the ambassador - who does represent his government - a drunk was merely a rhetorical flourish?

This will never happen. Albanians in Kosovo hate everyone there, but themselves. And the province exists only because of crime. You cannot rebuild the minds and practices of an ethnic group (Albanians) that has behaved like this for centuries.

As to EU i would suggest to ambassador Dell to mind his own country's business which have nothing to do with EU enlargemeent.

His interference is a clear insult to EU countries that have refused to recognise Kosovo's illegal indpendence.Ambassador Dell doen't understand that it is those countries that have the
right of a veto within the EU and not the US.
