Who cares or wants statues of evil despots the birds know what to do with them.
(Lenard, 16 September 2009 21:31)

Hehe, that was a good one, Lenard. Precisely what a statue of A.P. deserves is bird "critic".

OHH..Common..you people cannot actually beleive that this will happen. For one most people in croatia would not stand for it, especially the vast majority of Zagrebians. Secondly, this has been actually attempted befre in Slunj and Sveti Rok with statues of Francetic and Budak. It was HDZ who came in with the goon squad to dismantle them both. So, lets use some intelligence when reacting with the heart to matters such as these. Now you can all praise HDZ for there humane actions...I Don't beleive it will happen.

No one in Croatia or the rest of the world bothers to consider this news except a handful of nostalgic Serbs. Why? Because no one cares what a few absurd poeple talk about doing except if you are a Serb who is continually trying to denouce all Croats as evil blah blah blah. Stop living in the past. P.S. Ante Pavelic was a crazy sick evil man, yes obviously, but Draza Mihailovic was sick and crazy too. He collobrated with the Nazis and Italians to get what he wanted. Just because he wanted a Greater Serbia doesn't mean his actions should be excused.

Not the first time Croats are showing their true face. In Mostar, Bosnia, they have named streets after prominent ustasha leaders. There are fanatics all over the Balkans, however, only in Croatia and Kosovo are they allowed to show their ugly faces.

Dragan, It's a fact that mihailovic was a nazi collaborator and allie even though chetniks were labeled loyalists. The only difference between him and Pavelic was that mihailovic stayed out of the war as much as possible and was very ineffective against the partizans, but did for some time gather the support of not only England and the USA but of the fascist Geermany and Italy. He played all sides. He was a coward overall by not taking the battlefield and butchering innocent civilian woman and children instead in small villages across the former yugoslavia while the men in the village were serving on the front lines. That was his strategy, a real military hero.

One of the rare times I disagree with Bganon. Mihailovic was not as big a butcher as Pavelic, but butcher he was, and he did have a pathological hatred for what was non-Serbian, especially for whatever was Muslim, his Chetniks butchered tens of 1000s of Muslims to try to create a pure Serbia, as is well documented.

Yes this stunt by some little Nazi group in Croatia is outrageous, and I have confidence that Mesic will stop it, but their praise for Mihailovic - like Le Pen's praise for Seselj and Karadzic, Mihailovic's descendents - is a case of "birds of a feather." And by the way, the current visit by Israeli fascist FM, Lieberman, who aming things proposed drowning the population of Gaza in the Red Sea, to praise Serbia\s position on Kosova, is another case of "birds of a feather."

Yes, I know, B92 won't publish this, because it is "provocative", even though it only criticises political positions andnot whole peoples, unlike all the posts that get through depicting the entire Kosovar Albanian population as drug fiends, backward, rapists, terrorists and murderers. Never mind.

How extremely embarassing for 'European' Croatia!

And how disgusting that people try to relativise the crimes of a butcher like Pavelic, whose crimes have been documented by international historians, with Mihailovic.

I do not worship Mihailovic but any comparison between a cold blooded genocidal maniac and an educated man forced to make difficult choices in war is completely outrageous.

Enemies of Mihailovic may say that his view was to protect Serbs first, above others. Yes, but he did not support butchery / savagery nor did he have a pathological hatred for everything non Serb. Further he was punished for his 'crimes' in a communist court.

Pavelic did have a hatred of everything non Croat - unless they were nazi Germans or Austrians that is. And that vermin got away with it.

Ordinary Croatians will feel ashamed of this news.

Just remember that HUP is a fringe group from Tudjman's HDZ. This is more a gimmick in opposing what they see as the heavy hand of Mesic than what Croats actually regard as something actually necessary. At the absolute worst, one can chalk it up to crude Croatian nationalism trying to either Mihailovic down to Pavelic's level, or pathetically attempt to rehabilitate Pavelic's memory from the Nazi stooge he was. I don't even think Thompson would be stupid enough to endorse this idea. But then again, this IS Thompson we're talking about...

Dragan

Comparing the Nazi Pavelic to Draza Mihajlovic, who was awarded the Legion of Merit by the US, is disgraceful and insulting.
However, I say let the croats build their monument of this bloodthirsty Nazi who even made German SS officers sick with his inhumanity, and let Thompson sing at the monument opening. The world needs to know what croats are really like, and the anti-Serb lies and propoganda that have been spewed by croat hired PR firms like Rudder Finn, and Hill & Knowlton, need to be exposed.

I totally disagree with HUP in regards to erecting a monument to Ante Pavelic. Ante Pavelic like Draza Mihajlovic caused major suffering for Croats & Serbs during and after WW2. Why should these people be glorified. HUP if you really want to erect a monument, please consider someone of greater importance like the late Vukovar General Blago Zadro. You cannot compare the Serbian Hero Draza Mihailovic who fought against the Nazis with the fascist puppet ante. Idolizing ante would be like idolizing Hitler!
Draza was a warrior while ante was a puppet who took advantage of the Nazi force.
Why do croatians look up to Ante?
