I can´t help it... I can´t get this feeling away that our dear k-albanian friends cannot but complain about rice not being delivered to China, or some alleged economy class flights.

well, it seems as if they are getting nervous, if they were not nervous even before.

I cannot imagine any other reason for them to write so much nonsense, just because of a chinese official visiting Serbia... =)

a rice-embargo against China... Jesus, do these kids live on the backside of the moon??? unbelievable.

what are they telling these kids in those cheap yellow-papers in down-town Priština??? and what´s even more frightening: these kiddies seem to believe that crap!

Dear village-bey,

I hadn't seen you second post (note that I wrote 'comment on small arms..', not 'commentS..') before I had composed and sent my first point, therefore I could not have commented on, nor as you claim "repudiate claims towards China by attacking the US’s record."

Still, my post points out that a) there are many countries ahead of serbia who are 'major exporters', b) that the US has refused to place controls on the export of US manufactured small weapons.

Drawing some sort of moral equivalence between the two in particular is still a very poor and non sustainable argument.

That Serbia exported weapons to Liberia, I do not doubt, but this pales by far in comparison to a multitude of other examples by so called 'good' states who have behaved as badly, if not worse in fueling war zones, export rules or no.

I suppose a point should be made about the recent arrest of the belgian Mr. Jacques Francois (who amongst other things helped to bring in small arms from Iran on behalf of the US to Croatia and Bosnia) and the ukranian Viktor Bout, peddlers of small arms often on the behalf of certain governments and also where many of those arms came from, particularly the massive stocks of weapons that were left over from Warsaw Pact arsenals.

Despite the EU's good record, EU states also fueled the wars in the balkans either directly (ex-GDR stocks) or through third parties such as the Ukraine etc. Rather than destroying them which is required under the initial and then updated Conventional Forces Treaty, there was no restriction on either just giving them away or selling them, so supposedly good examples of sensible export guidelines could be ignored.

Alex,
Nothing wrong with writing a semi or quarterly educated comment. People need to be more aware of so called experts.
The purpose of every comment is to stand the scrutiny of other commentators.
As far as I am concerned mine still stands, as you have produced nothing to devaluate my arguments.
You cannot repudiate claims towards China by attacking the US’s record. That’s pretty foolish.
My original comment “One thing that both countries have in common is that they are both major exporters of small arms.” My following comment
“Serbia although proportionally much smaller shares the same ethos as China.”

A report out just last month says that the US is the largest importer and exporter of small arms.

Jul 17, 2009
(MarketWatch) --"The biggest importer of small arms in the world isn't a rogue or war-torn nation. It's us, the United States.

According to a report out this month, we are the largest exporter of small arms too, making America the largest small-arms dealer in the world. "

"the visit of chinese minister is just for bussines.now that america stop gavining rice to china ,the chinese tryin to find another solution to their food program.NO MORE RICE FOR CHINA TIL YOU RECODNISE KOSOVO INDEPENDENCE."

What a disturbing and badly written comment, if not only for its stunning ignorance that borders on xenophobia (chinese only interested in rice). Clearly someone who has a problem with the chinese.

As to village-bey's 'semi-educated' comment on export of small arms, it should be noted that if this is his requirement for comparison, then the US is much closer to china, being the major exporter of small arms globally and refusing to control the export of such weapons that cause between 60 & 90% of direct conflict deaths worldwide.

Please view the Small Arms Survey FAQ:
http://www.smallarmssurvey.org/files/sas/home/FAQ.html#FAQ3

As hard as I have tried, I cannot find Serbia marked under 'major exporter of small arms', so village-bey's comparison between the two is very sloppy to say the least.

Swiss
You have to distinguish between conventional arms sales and small arms trade, the latter having a direct impact on some poorest and most unfortunate people in the world.
You have to also distinguish between sales to repressive regimes like Egypt or Saudi from that of states or other non-state actor who have a highlighted tendency to use them openly against civilians, population at large or towards specific segments of population.
In this contest no state in the world surpasses China. Her ability to mass-produce small arms on a gigantic scale is not disputed.
“77% of the world's weapons were in the hands of 20 states. China, the Russian Federation and North Korea had the world's largest estimated firearms arsenals, standing at 41 million, 30 million and 14 million firearms, respectively. The United States, with 3 million firearms, ranked twelfth”.
That combined with China’s preference to sell to places like Sudan is a lethal concoction with dire consequences for many civilians around the world. Serbia although proportionally much smaller shares the same ethos as China.
On June 11 2006, Amnesty International issued a report criticizing China for selling arms to countries that abuse human rights. The report is titled "People's Republic of China: Sustaining conflict and human rights abuses; the flow of arms accelerates."

Amnesty International noted that China is emerging as one of the world's major arms exporters. Moreover, its arms sales are an integral part of the trade it is developing with countries. "Over the last 20 years China has supplied a range of military, security and police equipment to countries with a record of gross human rights violations," accused the report.
Amnesty International argued that the export of conventional weapons and small arms, "has been contributing to human rights violations including in brutal armed conflicts."
Amnesty International argued that the export of conventional weapons and small arms, "has been contributing to human rights violations including in brutal armed conflicts."
In Nepal, the report noted, China has supplied small arms and light weapons to the armed forces, which have been responsible for much of the killings and torture, often of civilians, in the internal armed conflict.
Sorry for the delay but I had to go to work.

As to the sales of arms, it would be interesting to see what it represents in % compared to what the US exports.
For your information an interesting link from a today's newspaper, in french, but basically it says
that the US sells 70% of the world weaponery, Italian being the second one and Russian the third one, way behind the US.
More interesting, while the weapons sales in other countries has decreased the last two years the US has increased by 50%, most probalby for the sake of democracy!!

Alex,
Nothing wrong with writing a semi or quarterly educated comment.
Only a few years back an ad hoc UN committee was accusing Serbia of violating ban on arms exports by selling thousands of guns, hand grenades and mines to Liberia.

So the US has stopped selling rice to China because it hasn't recognised Kosovo? Wow, China is in big trouble now! It better hurry-up and do as the K-Albanians want before the whole country and it's 1.3 billion population simply vanish.

To village-bey; People trafficking, drug smuggling, rascism, gangsterism, and chronic instability are also modern day scourges. The powers that be in Kosovo excel in all the above. Perhaps you and your ilk should concentrate in putting your own house in order, before handing out advice to others.

Duh!

So you mean that Serbia will produce rice for China, interesting development!

Second post

As to the sales of arms, it would be interesting to see what it represents in % compared to what the US exports.
For your information an interesting link from a today's newspaper, in french, but basically it says
that the US sells 70% of the world weaponery, Italian being the second one and Russian the third one, way behind the US.
More interesting, while the weapons sales in other countries has decreased the last two years the US has increased by 50%, most probalby for the sake of democracy!!

Jesus, do these kids live on the backside of the moon??? unbelievable.

what are they telling these kids in those cheap yellow-papers in down-town Priština??? and what´s even more frightening: these kiddies seem to believe that crap!

as I said: unbelievable.
