I recall our Albanian friends trying to convince Serbs to recognise Kosovo because once everybody joins the EU there will be no more borders between nations.

Dont be naive Mike. Why do you expect the V-Hungarians not to demand autonomy just because of the Austrians deprived them of historical control? You must be from the west, right? What plays out in ROM will impact on V-Hungarians actions & if Serbia stays out of the EU, the EU can retaliate by provoking seperatsim instead of Colored Revolutions.

"From my perspective, this will be a measuring stick and a prelude to problems in Vojvodina."

I wouldn't read too far into that. A good part of more Hungarian mobility in Transylvania than Vojvodina has to do with historical importance of the region as well as official policies of the state. Transylvania was far more of a core region of pre-Trianon Hungary than Vojvodina, which was mostly the Vienna-controlled Military Frontier set up to combat against Hungarian encroachment. Hungarians shared Vojvodina with Serbs, Croats, Romanians and Germans equally. Transylvania was far more Hungarian controlled.

But the second, and far more plausible, reason are efforts by local Romanian authorities of "de-Magyarizing" Transylvanian towns such as Cluj/Koloszvar and purposefully pushing Romanian identities and historical significances over, and often in spite of, Hungarian contributions. I don't think such moves by the Transylvanian Hungarians are going to go beyond some form of cultural autonomy, but it's certainly not an endemic problem throughout Central Europe.

I hope Romania crushes that stupid idea.

Seems like the Hungarians have adopted a few lessons from the albanians and are pressing their luck as well.
