... Is Saakashvili so stupid to flex muscles again?
(Ment, 4 September 2009 16:40)

Yes he.With such a mental state one normally would not be allowed to ride a bicycle not to lead a country.I really regret anyway very hospitable georgian people.

Ment,

No, Saakashvili will not do anything stupide (what the Russians would like him to do). On the other side the tention between NATO and Russia will not decrease but increase in the coming years.
Western democraties will see that NATO is needed just like before because of a belligerant Russia, who continues to present a threat to her small neighbors. NATO will have to be extra vigilent.

Whatever Georgia's reasoning, the fact is that Russia has recognized Abkhazia as an "independent" state.
Russia has also demonstrated that it can attack Georgia (and win) whenever it sees fit and the U.S. and E.U. will not lift a finger (militarily at least) to stop her.

These are the cold hard facts on the ground. Which brings the question... Is Saakashvili so stupid to flex muscles again?

Leonidas,

Those actions described in the article are not before Russia's coastline but before Abhazia's unless you mentally already incorporated that territory into Russia.

we must not forget that kosovo is a very small fish, with little to offer compared to what georgia can give you.
(bob, 3 September 2009 20:31)

100% right, kosovo is already an old story for the US, they got what they wanted and thru the hot potatoe to EU!

so georgia to russia = cuba to usa? both little fish, next door to big fish, both are/were supported by big fish from across the pond.
russia meddling with cuba/venezuala/brazil/etc... makes usa mad. usa meddling with georgia/ukraine/serbia makes russia mad.
both are big bullies. both are just as bad as the other. both only look out for themselves at the cost of everyone else.
kosovo...
i'd say georgia is more important to usa and russia than kosovo is. both countries would trade kosovo for getting what it wants in the cacauss region.

Which is more important to USA, Kosova or Georgia?
Before you answer, the outcome will be for Russia to keep Abkahzi and SO, but they have to recognize Kosova.
(Kosova-USA, 3 September 2009 17:30)

Georgia is in Russia's doorstep and therefore more important than Kosovo.

As far as recognition is concerned Russia will never recognise kosovo as an independent country without a political solution between the Serbs and the Albanians.

To Joe

Russia has the legitimate right to defend its borders from US stooges.Naval exersises in the Black Sea between Georgia and the US do not constitute friendly relations towards Russia.Do they?

Leonidas,
A small country doesn't want to cry uncle to its huge bullying neighbor and tries to protect itself by accepting US protection. How scandaleous. What cruel times we live in.
And you propose new set of norms? Should it be similar to that of Yalta? Do you realize that the time of Yalta is over? Please see things in the light of the XXI century.

Leonidas,
I do agree with your coments, but there is a catch and would like to ask you a question and hopefully will get an honest answer.

Is there going to be round two between Saakshvili and the Russians? I doubt it.

There is no "looming conflict" here, just a warning from Russia to the US to stay the out of its back yard.

Georgia is not an independent sovereign country if it's dependent on the US military and economic protection .Therefore, anything Saak does is with the authorisation of the US.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with Russia protecting her interests against the constant needling by the US and her satellites. It's about time the Obama administration comes off the shadows and agree with Russia
a new set of international norms.
