Do you have any idea how many companies involved in electronics and the logistics thereof, headquartered in the EU, receive all the products from Shanghai?

Don't know the rest of the world, the EU is only successful thanks to trade with them, regardless of whether it's China or Libya.

The only countries to truly be avoided are North Korea, Zimbabwe and a few others.

joe,
not to be too picky but i fairly sure that in the early years of the union (USA) the individual states had similar issues. a good number of years of joint prosperity has made USA a single entity, as it is now, and not the collective group as it was intended.
but otherwise i fully agree with you previous comment.

Michael Thomas,

I fully agree with your assessment. Eu membership is not a panache to economic and other problems, hardly a garanty to better life. Just ask the citizens of the new member states. In Hungary for example there is big disillusionment with the EU.
I think it is advantageous for the big countries like Germany and France who have access to a much bigger market. Also there is no eguality about the members. Germany and France lead and the rest has to follow. Residents of the new members are viewed as people of second class. This is not the case in the US. Residents of California, Texas or New York don't look down on residents of small states like Vermont, Rhode Island or Delaware.
For all these reasons the EU will never work like the USA.

Resistance is futile says Mircea.

Maybe for romania, what do they get in return? Yet more poverty and sex-slaves, what a future.

Stop dreaming of easy cash Mirc, it´s not gonna happen. Do something yourself.

Who has brainwashed Serbia’s entire political class into believing that absorption into the EU is inevitable and desirable? Where is the evidence to support this claim?

The UK, Germany and France are not wealthy because of the EU; they are wealthy because a large number of their people are hard workers who produce goods that others want to buy. Western European countries have been wealthy for centuries because of hard work and intelligence (and a little looting of colonies). The EU has not transformed bankrupt western businesses into profitable, world-beating companies. Why then do people in Serbia expect the EU to do for it what it has not achieved in western Europe?

I have said it here before; the only future the EU offers Serbs are jobs cleaning public lavatories and streets in Brussels, Berlin and Birmingham.

Why does america borrow money from China and also have all their products made there; and then mark up prices on goods catastrophically? You are probobly wearing something "made in China." What an easy way to make money right? Why is it that only Serbia has to pick one side and that's it?

While saluting Mr. Jeremic's commitment to Serbia's EU membership, I cannot help expressing some doubt that the road to this lofty goal leads via Beijing, Tripoli or Banja Luka.
