Amer,

Good analysis!
I think there will be increased repression and as a direct result an expansion of "operations" to the rest of the Federation.

Hand of Moscow,

I am not a Jew as myself and somebody else already pointed it out on this site. But I don't take it as an insulte. I just find it funny.

'Yes it's a big tragedy and a real problem for Russia.'

Russia's geographical position means that its tragedy is perhaps permanent - it has always been a country with no natural borders (except the Arctic Ocean, and this is opening up), meaning its only defense has been to acquire more and more territory. Unfortunately for all concerned, this territory has been occupied by other peoples. Russia needs the Caucasus as a boundary between itself and Turkey, but has not been able to convince the various peoples inhabiting the region that they are better off as part of Russia than as independent states.

The only bright spot so far has been that the insurgents have directed their attacks almost exclusively against the army and the local police, unlike in Iraq and Afghanistan, where civilians have born the brunt of terrorist violence. But if the increasing repression persuades the local fighters to expand their operations to the rest of the Federation, there won't be any Atlantic Ocean to provide a first line of defense. And with the recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia as independent states, the insurgents see a precedent of Russia recognizing changed borders in the area, which may be what is encouraging them to step up the fighting now.

For someone who learned Russian by reading the Russian classics, with their tales of conquest in the Caucasus, this does begin to feel like a tragedy.

Yes I mean the Jackson-Venek law as well. You Jews you know that this restrictions were implemented in 1973 to force the USSR to open the borders for the Jews. It is comic that now when most of them left Russia and we have them returning and while the USSR unfortunately stopped to exist this law is still working. By the main demand of Russia is that the US should behave towards us the same way we do concerning them. This is what we mean as respect. Then we shall also respect you. Especially if you stop terrorizing the world around.

Hand of Moscow,

First this "thing" respect: Yes the US and Western media constantly highlight that the Russians are looking for respect. People in the West are somehow confused about it. Should the US frequently state that "Russia we respect you" just like a man could say to his girl friend that "Honey I still respect you"?
About interfering with you in Canada, Mexico, EU and other regions you probably mean commercially. Well as you know there is international competition because the whole world is like a big market. Business is done between supply and demand. If your supply is cheaper or your demand is better you win. It is a free market. I don't know how a third party like the US could interfer or why would it do it.

Well I have nothing against Russian-German Treaty called as M-R Pact. Since 1936 the USSR has made several attempts to unite Europe against Hitler but they wanted to canalize him Eastward. Meanwhile we had Japan-German Pact aimed at us. So the Pact you are talking about was a big victory of the Russian diplomacy. We managed to diverse Hitler for a while and have two spare years to get ready for the war. I know this sad story rather good and can educate you if you like.

Hello friend !

In Chechnia we have to deal with the English and the Americans. As you know most of the Arab states are occupied by the US and via local special services they boost civil war in Russia. You must also be aware that despite everything 90-95% of the Chechens are against islamists and support unity with Russia. I have Chechen friends. They are specific but good people.
The vast attack at Russian Caucasus the Yankees organized after Bush has retired shows that Obama has little influence in the White House. At least it is much less than that of the Goldman Sachs or Morgan Stanley. Also I can see no difference between the two presidents. If I only hint what I think of them my post will be deleted.

Cheers !

This is the first time I agree with you. In Russian politics concerning the USA also nothing has changed. We respect the USA and want them to respect us. We still don’t want them interfere the regions of our vital interests like we do in Canada , Mexico , EU and other regions. We do not boost problems inside the USA and insist that they do the same. We make no restrictions for American business and want them do the same for the Russian one. We do not export problems to the world around and want them do the same. So we have nothing to change if only you don’t mean giving up like most of the mankind.

In Islam someone who sacrifices himself for the religion is called a SHAHID. ( Something like Kumikadze in Japan.) And the fanatic who has blown himself up today in Chechnia had second name of SHAHIDOV ... So if you are to die in fire you will never sink.

I am glad that you unkowledge
that you have a real problem in your hands not disimilar to the one the West is facing in Iraq and Afganistan.

Controlling homicidal Chechen warlords would be difficult for any country but Russia must rise to the occassion again in order to eradicate those fanatic islamic elements once and for all.

I wish you good luck with your task. You need it.

Are you talking about the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact? A "Hitler" annexes countries for themselves and still plans to annex more, I don't see how Chechens fir this category at all.

I feel that something more extreme is necessary to ensure peace in Chechnya.

What if someone is not charmed and thus escaped Obamamania ? Is it enough for his posts or parts of them to be deleted ? Most people in Russia see no difference between Obama and Bush and B92 cannot do anything about it.

Concerning Russia I have dozens of proof that nothing has changed but the slogans. So please give me a link which will prove me that I am wrong. This is the time I dream to be wrong.
