The sooner he goes the better.

It will interesting with the looming presidential elections in Croatia this year when Mesic finally retires ... because so far the lead candidate is HDZ's Dr Andrija Hebrang who happens to be Jewish.

After Israel, Croatia will be the only other country with a Jewish head of state ....

Dr Andrija Hebrang Jr is the son of Dr Andrija Hebrang Sr who lead a communist Croatia after WW2 and was executed by Tito because he wanted a communist Croatia not part of a communist Yugoslav entity.

Why are these churches getting money from the state budget? Don't you have an economic problem in Crotia just like the rest of the world. That 37 million euros can be used a lot more effeciently than helping churches "build monumental edifices"! What a joke!

Why are Catholic crosses permitted on public institutions in the 1st place? Are you forcing the Serbs or any Muslims to convert to Catholism. Nothing has changed in Crotia's backword thinking mind! I am starting to confuse Croatia with Turkey!

mr K,

You are forcing a religon on people! Not all people want to believe in your God! Your idea of gov't is worse than communism! Religon is a private matter.

Roman Catholic or Orthodox religion would not look much like they do if they follow the bible. They are more than anything a lot of made up from pagan traditions of men and their hypocrisy's not with truth of Gods word not what God requires or wants sad! Like Gods word says the blind (so called religious leaders) leading the blind like the bible says. When they are finished with you yore twice as deserving to go to hell. Read the Bible for your self it will be an eye opener to the truth.

Yes it is funny isn't it? Croatia should be a secular state but everybody knows the influence of the catholic church in affairs of state.

The thing is that Mesic made a pact with the 'devil' back in the 1990's. He hung with the extreme Croatian diaspora and courted supporters of a clerical state.

Maybe he is against this right wing 'lobby' now but he did make his own bed... However putting that to one side on these issues I'm glad that Mesic speaks out because in Croatia leaders shut up and put up with it.
