Could not disagree more with you.

First of all let’s start with the case which was published in the news: secretary or adviser of Kostunica got the apartment in Belgrade from 70 something square meters(with the market price of minimum eur 100 000 with cheap eur 1500 per square meter) for eur 10 000. I may reconsider that government employees can have certain privileges and to be excluded of paying some taxes for their government given apartments which will lower the market price of that apartments for 20-30%, but paying the eur 10 000 for something which cost eur 100 000 or more is called simply theft!
You are also mentioning that giving the apartments will keep and recruit the quality people? I do not see that giving away of more than 2000 apartments by government in last 10-15 years increased the quality of government stuff at all and in the contrary that sort of policy can only increase the corruption inside the government posts!
Though the salaries of government employees are competitively low comparing the Western Europe
(and in the line with the salaries in Eastern Europe) government employees still do have salaries higher then Serbia’s average so as such they are already rewarded reasonably in their own society and as government officials they must share the “destiny” and hardship of their own country and not become established privileged group.

Spend the time and advice the public opinion of Serbia concerning this case...simply said people are appalled with continuous theft of the various government officials following numbers if dubious processes!

So none of your claims does not stand a sec.

Dean,

The salaries of government workers in Serbia is one of the lowest in Europe. It can't compete with foreign or private companies. That's why it has to offer benefits like apartments to long serving staff in order to recruit qualified people in substantive positions. It's much cheaper for the country to make apartments than it is to raise the salaries. This also has the added benefit of retaining staff and discourage corruption to a certain extent.

To be honest, most people in the former SFRJ have been able to weather the economic hardships over the past 10-15 years because of the allocations of properties. In Canada 90% of the homes are heavily mortgaged. In Serbia 90% of properties have no mortgage.

You must be someone that owns one of those foreign banks in Serbia!

Man can only hope that at least this apartment will be taken away from its "government provided rightful owner"?

Government is checking on the irregularity in the process? Well, the problem is that the process was irregular and illegal.
You work for the government, you get the salary and you buy the apartment with the market price just like every other citizen of Serbia!
At least, it works like that in the most of the properly regulated countries in the World.

This affaire and "process" will be "checked" on irregularities with no consequences for the involved and then till the next "lawless made process and affaire" on the same subject in the future.
