BTW The reconstruction of the trial on the TV screens gave some hints that it was Iran behind the bombing.

I (as usual) tend to look at human and mechanical/electric problems first, probably because this is what I have to face day-to-day. But I agree, that Iran is very likely as well and there is no lack of motives.

Some evidence suggest a reverse order of events: door failure -> sudden decompression -> small gun in cargo compartment goes off (hence the residue). In any case the explosion if any was relatively minor and on the LEFT side of the airplane body, while the major damage was on the opposite (RIGHT) side of the airplane, next to cargo door.

So much was screwed up during the investigation and so much phantasy play was allowed, that we can make any conspiration theory - Space Aliens included - which is not any worse than the official version.

The case with TW-800 is almost as bad. :(

The evidence presented to the Scottish courts in the trial of the Lockberie bomber was never conclusive.
Fragments of the bomb timer, for example, were found miles away from the crash and there was some speculation that they were doctored in some way.

Since a lot of people, including a fair proportion of the relatives of the victims, thought he was stitched up in the first place it was the right decision to allow him to go and die at home.

Well, to be honest the entire Lockerbie issue is a bit smelly and many things do not add. With all disrepect to Gaddafi - he never ADMITTED the case because with a good probability he has nothing to do with it. All he did was merely for convenience.

And with all due disrespect to Lybian secret service: this one could be they have not much to do with.

What won't hurt anyone: to be sceptic to any theory - be it a conspiration theory or offcial - and for your own safety just avoid airlines which still fly Gen-I and Gen-II B-747 airplanes.

There is a known "bug" of front cargo door latches. Just in case if this gentleman is right:

And if he is not right: the 747-100 and 747-200 airplanes are pretty old now anyway and companies who fly them are not the best.
