The sarajevo film fest is one of the best in the world, and certainly the most exciting, energized i've ever attended, and i've been to many!

the best things about the fest (aside from the generally very high quality international selection of films) is the cosmopolitan aura that surrounds it, typically including participants from at least 50 countries.

the other aspect that strikes you is the lack of "we're just too cool" factor that is part of the festival's aura. in some venues, sometimes incl here, there is that sense of studied boredom and coolness that people feel they need to exude, but i never felt that at the SFF. many people get really dressed up to the 9's, esp.ly on opening night, where the red carpet is literally rolled out, and you can monitor the outside proceedings on tv in a way that would never happen here, in the states.

can anyone tell that i love and miss my beloved sarajevo? and god knows when i will be able to return. yes we all know that bosnia is imperfect, and some of us are just all too painfully aware of the lackings and contradictions, but during the festival all is well, people of many ethnicities get along (despite those "age-old animosities") and people smile and have a grand old time.

perhaps they should place me on the PR committee :))
