Of course if a gay is just slapped in face, kicked or thrown by egg in Belgrade,Moscow or Warsaw we must read book length prechers about backward societies on this forum.

I never was there - but as far as I know, the population of Tel Aviv is more and more resembling of Moscow. Not talking about society, but if it is about politicians - they could be much better. In particular I object Luzhkov (the major of Moscow) a lot. His stance against the gays is a disgrace and he himself (commie turncoat, pretending to be a bigger Pravoslav than Mount Athos) is a disgrace of Moscow.

I for one am not preaching any double standards, nor have i ever. every society must struggle for equality and for human and civil rights -- it may take different forms and use different vocabulary, but essentially the struggle is the same, around the world.

we don't know the specifics of the motivation for the tel aviv attack, but it surely had to do w/ homophobia (a vicious attack in a gay center)and it is clear that (some) right wing jewish zealots have long promoted homophobia, sexism, and in general intolerance of the "other."

in that sense it is no different than here in the US, in former yugo, in moscow, in saudi arabia, wherever.

but at least in israel the govt. has strongly come out against this hate crime, and generally people have been appalled.

so that is what we are talking about, "preaching" about around the world -- there is hate, there are attacks, but how do the politicians respond, how do "normal" people respond.

i am so sick of some people using the problems and prejudice in the west to justify their own prejudices, racism, sexism, homophobia. take some ethical responsibility for your own society.

Some should think twice before preaching and setting double standards.
