"EU supports integration of W. Balkans"

Western Balkan countries have to overcome more obstacles, while European Union member-states have understood that they should support the integration process.

Valdeti,
are you stating that because i am Canadian, i should have no say on Serbian affairs.

Well then no foreign country had the right to intervene in Serbia's affairs.

All foreigners should leave Serbia immediately.

By the way, i didn't say what you had quoted
"...ypu left immediately for ItalY"

must have been something else you read. eh!

What about? I didn't know until now that Canada was a part of former Yugoslavia!?

You know well that the vast majority of the bombing was committed by US bombers, the EU did not wage war in Serbia (many EU members did not even take part in the peacekeeping operations).

Serbia really should not forsake the EU, it is a good opportunity for Serbia to have good relations with everybody. The past is the past, Milosvic is gone, Clinton is gone, time to move on (that rhymes nicely).

"Mircea what do you gain by Serbia joining the EU??"

What a beautiful thing for Serbs to do, joining those who bombed her to death 10 years ago and had a hostile politic towards her ever since. Why should we join our true friends out there when we finally in total obedience can put us to rest under €U´s shining booth?

Red_Bandit,

I think the people of Serbia deserve to enjoy the same benefits that my country, Romania, enjoys as a member of the EU.

These are some of the benefits:

1. EU membership has helped countries in Central and Eastern Europe to achieve high rates of economic growth
2. EU membership has allowed the countries of Central and Eastern Europe to attract more foreign direct investment
3. EU Member States have access to the Structural Funds and to the Cohesion Fund which will help to reduce the economic disparities between EU Member States
4. EU Member States have the possibility to adopt the Euro once they meet the criteria
5. EU Member States have the possibility to join the Schengen Area in which borders are removed between member states
6. EU citizens have the possibility to travel, live and work without restrictions in other EU Member States. (The restrictions imposed on workers from Central and Eastern Europe in some EU Member States are only temporary)

Peter,

Romania plans to enter the ERM2 on 1 January 2012. The Romanian government's target date for adopting the Euro is 1 January 2014.

I hope that Poland and Romania will become members of the Eurozone as soon as possible.

Our finance minister said that the z³oty is stable enough for Poland to enter the ERM2 this year still (sometime in the second half of this year), but I don't think we will make it, and our Euro adoption will be affected by this too.

It's much harder for a bigger country like Poland, than someone smaller like Slovakia or the Baltics.

And Romania? Last I heard, the goal was 2010-2012?

Luigi,
just think how richer and more powerfull the Balkans would be today, had it not been for the medeling of the EU nations. Yugoslavia was very powerfull only two decades ago.

Serbia as the successor will reign again, with or without the help of the EU.

Luigi, as an Albanian,
i would bet that you had enjoyed the comforts offered by the former Yugoslavia. But once Yugoslavia was dismantled, you had left for Italy to enjoy more comforts.

Where are you headed next?

Peter,

Intially, the government of Poland planned to join ERM2 in June. Has the prime minister of Poland set a new date for entering ERM2?

Luigi,

It will be easier for Iceland to join the EU since it is a member of the European Economic Area and a member of the Schengen Area.

Mircea

On Monday EU foreign ministers accepted Iceland's request to join the EU.

I think that Iceland has made a good decision by submitting its application for EU membership. Norway and Switzerland should follow the example of Iceland.

To all Irish citizens,

Vote "yes" for the Lisbon Treaty on 2 October.
