Serbians "region's most intelligent"

Serbia has 5,000 people with above-average IQ who could therefore join Mensa – many more than other countries in the region, says Politika.

You spoke the relevant language with a cute Hungarian accent, thereby eliminating the perception of intimidating intellectual superiority.
(Amer, 27 July 2009 02:26)

That accent does not apply to SU and a large enough part of YU: Russian is my mother tongue, but other languages indeed I speak with heavy Hungarian accent.

An American accent in any language is so ugly a guy might as well just speak English :(
(Amer, 27 July 2009 02:26)

LOL, this is not necessarily true. And as you know, the entire East Europe is full of American guys who firmly decided to have international family, whatever it takes. And many are successful.

Speaks a lot about how difficult the situation in the States is if someone roams the streets of Pristina or Kiev looking for a wife.

And as for quality of choices - here I would compare Chicken Kiev with McDonald's. ;-)

(Secret, just don't tell anyone: one of the reasons we moved back is to minimize the "risk" for our children to get American wives)

Dopey article & poorly written. 'IQ' tests are slanted towards those with a maths background.

Kosova-USA:

Not speaking about you specifically, but there are plenty of women geeks out there who probably are overlooked in the search for the elusive female partner.
(kate, 26 July 2009 15:14)

Well, during my early 20-s I tried very hard in Hungary, in particular with geek girls - but in retrospect that country was for me somehow more difficult than others. Ultimately with success, but it was of course my fault: the more they feel, we want it that desperately - the lesser is our value.

Why THEY liked me in Austria, Germany, YU, SU more than in Hungary no idea. My wife says, our class was in particular full with kids challenged socially, but with excellent academic skills - and that did not made our youth very happy. We were classmates and both had hard time before finding each other.

I hope Kosova is not included on this one as part of Serbia, otherwise if it is than Serbia will have only 1000 smart people out of 5000.
By the way, I am writing this while enjoying my vacation in Durres beautifull beach (Albania). All of you guys should try it. I am met many Serbs from Serbia in Durres.

Ataman - if you want my two pence worth, geeks live in a cyber reality where females are judged by very artificial standards paired by the fact that geekiness does not tend to lend itself well to social skills.

Jovan - I agree about the French, but British people on the whole have an extremely high IQ ;)

You should not, look this one: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,2-2105519,00.html and see who is on the last place of those supposedly tested. IQ tests are a joke

...and what I found most stupid about this article is: Serbia can compare with France or England - oh jesus, how great these countries are...

laughable.

I am afraid, eventually ex-Yugoslavia's high IQ people will "feed" many companies in the States. Very few can work as university professors at home.

To Kate:

Indeed, what most people call "success" in life - that "thing" does not depend on IQ. It depends on good social skills. This is the base "requirement" for attractive female companio(s) + villa on Jadran + black "Bimmer" SUV.

Geeks / Nerds rarely have good social skills but they tend to live longer lives. For us, "success" is not measured by the number of black BMW SUV-s we drive and number of "influent" friends. Rather by the number of people who use the product you actually do (plus life without extremities).

And as for "attractive female companions" - few geeks complain. Because for many ladies our "geeknes" is more attractive than the black Bimmer. Some "countries" are maybe better, some worse. I have my "country list" which is completely "apolitical": both Albanians and Taiwanese being pretty high on the list - however USA is the lowest. Anyone who is going to immigrate to the States, better to take care about personal/sexual relationship BEFORE immigrating: easier to go through such big changes together and USA is a tough place to find a new relationship. I just could not figure out that artificial smile during 15 years.

But in the vast area from France to Taiwan even the geeks with worst social skills can figure out certain things easily, no complains. ;-)

However this article is not that intelligent :)

2% of serbian population would be like 140000 people; if only 5000 pass the test that is a big underrepresentation :)

kate

pre 14 godina

While I am not doubting anyone's intelligence, I am always suspect about such measurements. I know people who are in Mensa and/ or academically brilliant but not bright in other aspects of life such as emotions, insight, commonsense etc.

Equally, there are some people who have no or little formal education who are incredibly sharp, bright and intelligent.

Part of the problem in early education is that brilliance is usually only spotted when it conforms and fits the academic profile.
