Kosovo will only join the EU and the UN as a part of Serbia.

Until then it will be a ghetto.

What do you expect of a place run by Islamic extremists??

My openion being Serbs living in Kosovo are highly likely to benefit as Northern Kosovo has direct links with Belgrade and refuse to recgnise Kosovo institutions. Kosovo-Serbs have been paying a heavy price which ever way we look at things. And one day if Kosovo becomes another Cyprus we know where Northern Kosovo belongs.
(Reality, 23 July 2009 18:30) What do you suggest for the REAL Serbs who refuse to leave southern Kosmet even though they could be killed any minute.

>>Kosovo is not part of this process at all, because five EU member-states do not recognize the province's unilateral independence, according to Balkan Insight.>>

first of all, balkan insight does not write about "the province's unilateral bla bla bla." that is not their language or style, and i read that site on a daily basis.

i completely agree w/ surroi -- the eu is doing a pitiful job (per usual) in regards to both kosovo and bosnia, which are continually under attack...

but there is more in the article. one piece is the signatory on this letter of a Kosovo serb (woman). the other is the apparently valid criticism of kosovar govt. officials for not following the rule about "biometric passports," whatever they are. i mean i can afford to not know but govt officials cannot. it seems to be a major blunder, which allows Kosovo's opponents and adversaries potent ammunition.

wake up europe! how many times have we said that, but the top who-ha's there appear to have their own very short-sighted agenda.

thank you.

"One of the signatories, Veton Surroi, says that the EU’s decision further isolates Kosovo citizens, and that it is demeaing for Kosovo citizens to have to queue in front of embassies in Priština or Skopje for visas."

-- Well if they didn't throw away their Serbian passports, I don't think they have to worry. Otherwise, they should have thought about the consequences of cutting through gas stations everytime they want to bypass a red right. Be prepared for more embarrasments when it's time to apply for the UN and the EU.

You reap what you sow. Kosmet needs to comeback to the negotiating table and settle a final status solution with the rest of Serbia. Since the current regime not open to this, a regime change is necessary.

Reality

pre 14 godina

Although Kosovo is on Serbian territory, Serbia had no direct control over events that were developing in Kosovo for the past 10 years. There are no borders and there is no direct rule from Belgrade otherwise Belgrade would tell Kosovo what to do and not negotiate it's future.

Serbia has earned visa liberation on it's own merit. Kosovo unileteral independece should not directly benefit from Serbia's merit.

There is no such thing as multi-ethnic society in Kosovo and reality being there will never be.

Rada, there are no people trying to create a mult-ethnic society in Kosovo. It was much more multi-ethnic before the US created this quasi-state in the Balkans. K_Albanians want a "Serb Free" Kosovo. Please let's be honest.

"it is demeaing for Kosovo citizens to have to queue in front of embassies in Priština or Skopje for visas"

Why, oh why is it demeaning to queue up for proper documents? what does this ngo think? that the world should be handed to them on a platter?

This extreme plight propoganda is getting a little old. A ghetto is not just made from the outside in, but also from the inside out. Please NGOs take a look internally, fix your own house before you start trying to bite at the external forces.
If the Kosovar government had spent its energies in helping its population, in building appropriate infrastructures, in education and employment instead of whatever fanciful ideas they wasted the money on, Kosovo would be that much closer to this prize, but alas, not until this so-called-soon-to-be-ghetto-(much-of-it-self-imposed) starts to shape up and resemble more closly a European(TM) state will it get its "free-pass".

It never ceases to amaze me how gloriously these NGOs and GOs (for that matter) can yell when they realize that they're cornered. It isn't the EU's fault for yourown shortcomings.

"Smart" try from NGO and Surroi.

They want to use kind of Motion from Greens in the European Parliament this days who insisted that all the Countries from the Region do progress towards EU equally. Obviously that Greens, for their euro 10 000 per person per month, do know just about nothing about the Region and levels of social and legal developments in the different Countries involved. They just nicely used the Kosovo for their daily ("left liberal equality thinking") politics.

NGO and Surroi's try to entrance via "small door" and join present regional development is politically not realistic and they are obviously not or not willing to be aware of Kosovo’s present international diplomatic position.

It is just a procces. Kosovo will not be standing ouside the visa but for the moment Kosovo dosen't fulfill the requirement to have visa free travel. One requirement is to have full control over it's borders wich Kosovo dosen't have yet at the border with Serbia. This is somthing that Eulex and the goverment of Kosovo is working on now. Everything is understandible because everybody knowes that Kosovo got a long way t EU. Kosovo cannot be on the same level as Croatia,Bosnia,Macedonia and Serbia because Kosovo is a state born one year ago.

The importance wich I see here is that with free visas Serbia has made clear where it's borders stand. Kosovo is not a part of Serbia because then it's citizens would also benifit like the serbian people. Serbia has to have full control over it's borders and it does. Figure it out for your self where those borders stands.

Another signatory, Rada Trajković, says that the EC’s decision devalues the efforts of people in Kosovo who are trying to create an open and multi-ethnic society

An illegal UDI doesn't give you the right to bypass certain criterias.
So far a lot of wind has been made but reality on the ground is very far from what we could eventually call a multi-etnic society!

Ron

Kosovars choose ILLEGAL independence. Well, this is the price.

Simply accept that you are part of Serbia and you can enter EU as part of Serbia.

A win-win situation for everyone!
