"...The Russians too are entitled to a peaceful and better life..."

Answer: Well if the Germans were allowed to receive the second largest proportion of the help from the Marshall Plan (after Britain) on the base "that they were only doing their duty and that they did not know" then I surely believe that the Russians with their 17 millions of victims....should I repeat the number...are "entitled" to live peaceful and better life!

BTW, thanks for the generous notice and entitlement.

"But non-parliamentary opposition members ... said they failed to answer the wider questions, such as how and when he plans to regain control of South Ossetia and Abkhazia."

Are they really trying to provoke him into trying again? Nothing should discredit the opposition faster than this.

"one gets the impression that US radical neocons won't be satisfied until Russia accepts permanent NATO garrisons in every Russian town."

I got a good lough. Leonidas, your obsession with NATO goes to far. How do you say "relax" in Greek? Where would NATO get all those hundreds of thousands of soldiers for all those garrisons? We are not in the first part of the XXth century anymore. Nowdays getting 20-30 thousand more for Afghanistan is already a big problem. Also I don't want to downplay the importance of Russia (I got attacked enough for it) but a garrison for every town?
This reminds me an interesting comment by a German friend in the sixties "We are locky for having lost that war. Now in this "Wirtschaftswunder" (economic miracle) we live well. Had we won the war I would be most likely in a garrison or observation tower somewhere in the Caucasus, the Ural or Siberia".
The NATO would never dream to occupy huge landmasses. They don't have a Chinease type population base to be able to do it. Also the Russians proved amply that they can be very brave partisans. I even like some of those partisan songs. But let's leave it as part of a painful history. The Russians too are entitled to a peacful and better life.

The opposition accuse the Georgian president of bungling last August's war with Russia over South Ossetia, and failing to strengthen the rule of law and to improve democratic freedoms.

B92
Neither Russia nor the Ossetinas will allow this to happen.

Shaakasvili initiated the hostilities, firing on UN sanctioned monitors. Russia offered a cease-fire that Georgia, with US support, rejected. That is when Russia intervened, to defend its interests as well as the civilians fleeing Georgian attacks.

It is amazing that even after the conflict ended Shaak and his US & EU allies continue to accuse Russia for invading Georgia. It all seems like Kosovo again.

The US and NATO treated the kosovo conflict as onesided (with innocent non-organ stealing, non-Serb-killing, peace-loving, Mandela-like Albanians vs the Serbian evil warmongers) in which Serbia was the only guilty party.

They broke all international legislation to ensure that Kosovo is split from Serbia instead of offering them maximum autonomy within it (while they did just the opposite when it came to Serbs in Bosnia).

Somehow, i don't think the troubles in Caucasus are truly over.If one looks at US and NATO policies in Eastern Europe and the Caucasus countries one gets the impression that US radical neocons won't be satisfied until Russia accepts permanent NATO garrisons in every Russian town.
