Niall, you are right about the neoliberal economic model being a hopeless means of good development for poor countries. However, the fact remains that if the TV and media say it enough, the people will simply buy into it. It is like that with anything. Repeat it enough times by supposed phony experts and people will buy in. And hey, the might have a year or two of high growth, but in the end they will all fall down hard like Latvia right now or the poster-boy model for neoliberlism, Argentina around 2002.

The socialists are on the verge of collapsing. Their popularity is at about 5%, and at the next elections they probably wont' even make it into government. They betrayed their voters when they signed the deal with the DS. I mean hey, SPS was all about anti-EU, and anti-West. That was where Milosevic's party got many supporters. People expected that of them. Instead we get betrayal. I was one of these betrayed supporters. But that's politics.

G-17+, couldn't meet the 5% criteria the last elections. Because of the radicals Tadic gave the nearly a 30% of his coalitions seats.

Anyways. G-17+ has been doing mediocre. In 2003 they obtained close to 12%, in 2007 they fell to below 7% losing half their vote.

They always claimed how their economics were great how Serbia would become rich under them. Then when the results didn't show they blamed it on Kostunica obstructing parts of their policies.

Now we saw without him obstructing them the 4% they could have gotten in 2008 [ almost another halfing in less then a year ] has fallen by three quarters to 1%.

I think Tadic shouldn't go into any coalition with them. This decrepti and moribund party should stop being on the scene. They should save Serbia and dissolve themselves.

Jan,
as far as progressive you must not be familiar with Canadian politcs and men like William Davis, Joe Clark, Robert Stanfield, etc.

Socially progresive and fiscally Conservative. They desired to build things while others played politics

As far as Freedom, the Ikatha Freedom Party once worked for Zulus to end South African apartheid. They aren't so grand now but you can not rely on a name to pigeon hole a movement.

It always sends shivers down my spine when I hear about parties that includes words like 'progressive' or 'freedom' in their names.

This is good news. The policies of the neo-liberal (G17 & LDP) free market rampant capitalism has long since discredited. A solid coalition of socialist and progressive parties is the way forward for Serbia.
