Serious, the stability of borders and Soverignty is of great economic importance.

However if people demand fiscal responsibility they will achieve fiscal responsibility. The electorate has been very forgiving of the DS becuase the Ds has convinced them that it is either them or the past. The opposition needs to provide a clear and viable alternative that is not linked to the past by DS rhetoric. The sooner that this can happen the better.

To the other poster that thinks Serbia should be grateful for a company that is causing unemployment because, as he opines, it is better than the Russians -I would argue that it does not matter if the company is Russian, Martian American etc-what is important is that the Government holds the companies to task. I don't blame the multinationals for exploiting the deals, I blame the Government of Serbia for lack of foresight and due diligence. Blaming the Company for DS failures is not reasonable

'a new government that can focus on the economy.'

As I'm aware the opposition in Serbia prefers to talk about Kosovo rather than the economy. If you wait for a new government that will focus on the economy you will wait all your life.

Delic and Jeffrey Sachs might be great academics but their real life track record is pathetic. See Russia in the 1990's as exhibit A, B and C.

The privatization of Serbain industries was supposed to bring economic stability and transparency. Instead it may have been done in backroom deals with multi-nationals who entered into the Serbian economy knowing that the would not be held accountable in any meaningful way.

You see Bozidar Delic has boasted that he supervised this particular privatization personally. It was hailed as another DS G-17 Success in the pro government media

Mr Delic's expertise in the area of privitizations comes from the experience he gained working closely as a top deputy under Anatoly Borisovic Chubais; the mastermind of the privatizations of Russian State assets into the hands of Kremlin backers and mobster. Chubais is known as the most hated man in Russia and as a father of the Oligarchs in the west.

Albeit that was then and this is now, so what is the current government doing about the privitizations that have gone wrong.

In Russia much of Chubais damage has been rolled back as Oligarchs are held accountable. In Serbia nothing is being done, the government is celebrating about visa requirements being eased. Even though anyone who could afford to travel could easily afford the Visas

In Canada, the government is taking the US Steel Corporation to court over its plant shutdowns. In Serbia nothing is being done; the Prime Minister is so happy with the progress of the last year

In the US the government is boosting the US economy by demanding that US Government Infrastructure improvemenet is done with US made steel. In Serbia laid off steel workers are going to buy foreign ciggarettes while they watch DS politicians clinking glasses with Solana

Enough is enough. Serbia needs new elections and a new government that can focus on the economy.

When I read that DIV is majority owned by BAT, I'm not surprised that the whole thing is going up in smoke.
