"Obama said, “State sovereignty must be a cornerstone of international order. Just as all states should have the right to choose their leaders, states must have the right to borders that are secure, and to their own foreign policies. That is why this principle must apply to all nations – including Georgia and Ukraine. America will never impose a security arrangement on another country. For either country to become a member of NATO, a majority of its people must choose to; they must undertake reforms; and they must be able to contribute to the alliance’s mission. And let me be clear: NATO seeks collaboration with Russia, not confrontation.”

State sovereignty the cornerstone of international order. the right to secure borders. ..... really? The way the US treated Serbia's sovereignty and borders could have fooled me!

A good and balanced analysis with quite little to add :

1/ Yes there were no visible practical results but the whole atmosphere of bilateral relations has got a chance for improvement. I personally believe that the ball is on the American side.

2/ Medveputin is the real top of the state power in Russia with not a single reason to doubt it while Obama is just a spokesman of those behind to rule the USA. So we could merely expect results on vital matters where the US ruling elite’s consensus is required.

3/ Like most of the Russians I do not trust Obama. I believe he is still in his Presidential Campaign where you are to promise much and you really do nothing. After 13% of his Presidential period is behind I can see nothing he was able to do inside or outside the US. No results nowhere to tell nothing that Nethanyahu has sent him far far away with his Cairo initiatives …
