Peter Sudyka,
I didn't mean punishment in form of attack or bombing, only western countries have this kind of attitude! I meant economically such as an embargo, most countries that borders with Russia are dependent on Russian gas. Russia in not like the U.S that would've buried the island of Cuba if Fidel had installed the missile shield for Soviet Union.

Oh sure, but Russia can have thousands of warheads without Poland, Ukraine, the Baltics and all the other states that border Russia having anything to say about their own security.

And who is Russia going to punish? Attack two NATO members (Article 5)? Russia would be thrown into an all-out war against the most powerful army on earth, and do you think that the SCO or the CSTO will support them?

I don't think so!

Joe

I know you are an American citizen, but refering to us as "you Europeans" is just funny, since you are born and educated in Europe.

(Joe, 6 July 2009 01:40)"

Print more money? Go ahead, and become the banana currency of the future.

Europe to absorb more of your humongous debt AGAIN? Now that's wishful thinking. The whole world is moving away, slowly admittedly but inexorably, from the greenback as the world's reserve currency -- that's the only reason why the US was able to pull a fast one on the rest of us for so long. But you are only kidding yourself if you expect to be able to continue with this charade indefinitely and pretend to be the money bags that you aren't when your empty coffers are now unveiled before the entire world.

Leonidas,

Sure the US debt is not penuts - it should be much lower - but the Europeans wory about it much more than we do and rightly so. There is no Titanic mood here..no irresponsible indifference either. People get reminded about the national debt on a daily basis. It stands at 11,5 trillions right now, about 37,000 per person, around 110,000 per family..not 1 million as you state. Anyway it looks like it will be 1 trillion more next year. That is a hafty increase and if I were a European like you I would greatly wary about it. I don't want to appear cynical ---I don't approve it - but the fact is that somehow the US always find the way to pass part of any problem, financial loss or debt mainly to the Europeans. From the sub-prime mortgage losses of some 1 trillion Europe alone "swallowed" about half of it. If the next big crisis is coming because of our huge national debt you will certainly be affected big time. And our huge military expenses? Could we afford as much? Not at present. Does the government care about when 100 or 200 billion more are needed? Not at all. They just print more money. Sure I agree with you it is not right but it is just the way it is. And somehow its financial repercussions will reach you in Greece too.

All you comments here can be summarized as "Carfagena should be destroyed!" and this is the only way you manage to attract attention to you unemployed person. But you dreams are always failed for Russia is as strong as it is but not as you dream it to be.

Russia is no longer standing on it's knees and each morning they deside if they want you to see the sunrise or not. They also have USD 67 per barrel with their other barrels aimed at you.

Joe,

American-Russian or American-Ukrainian companies with mixed staff are usually a great place to work, but some people are better off working in different environment.

Joe,

you completely distorted the truth.
Americans are trying to set up a knife on the Russian throat(by forcing Ucraine and Georgia into NATO,last year they gave the green light for Georgia`s genocidal campaign in Abkhazia and Ossetia which resulted in the independence of those two nations).
We have to deal with a very aggressive and belligerent US and we need to contain them at all costs.

And as for the 4 of July,it is an American holiday, not a Russian one...

Russia economy will be diversified by 2020 according to the ten year plan so dont worry about it...

Leonidas

Also as I read on BBC the current Kremlin leadership remains extremely anti-american. This is the case since Putin. This is putinism. Nobody from the Kremelin (not even lower level people) showed up at the American reception of fourth of July. For the last 8 years the Russians camouflaged their antiamericanism as something uniquely anti-Bush. Now they face a US president, who is genuinely popular in the world. They have a problem to adapt, figure out how to react and how to justify further their antiamericanism in an economic environment hardly favourable to them.
(Joe, 5 July 2009 17:39)

The fact is that, while not perfect, both Putin and Medvedev have managed-slowly though-to wrest the country back from the oligarh scum. This is evident by the fact that many industries are coming under state control.

I guess you wouldn't make such comments if Russia was still under Yeltsin and you would obviously entertain the thought of having Putin removed and replaced by some other Kremlin elite craving for US love and affection and more amenable to being paid to support US interests.

If i were you i will be very concerned about the state of the US economy with the national debt amounting to one million dollars per family.

A closer look at your current
and trade deficits and also unemployment figures wil give you some food for thought.

I personally doubt whether the US will be able to maintain its prest military status around the world. To put it bluntly YOU ARE BUST AND CANNOT AFFORD IT.

As per a Russian expert quoted by Spiegel, the German weekly magazine the American-Russian relationship is determined entirely by the price of oil. At the low price of 40 dollars per barrel The Russians can not afford to cause trouble to the USA. At 60 dollars they can afford to get off their knees and ponder if they could do any mischief. At 100 dollars or above they would become extremely agressive.

Obama tries to tell the Russians "read my lips...it is not agains you". It is hard to understand this Russian paranoia in light of Russian statements about their super rockets, which - according to them - have not the slightest problem to go through any protective shield. Or are those rockets after all not so super? Also that very limited shield is planned only against Iran and other possible rogue states, ennemies of Western democraties. The whole controversy comes down to this simple question "Do Russians consider themselves as part of those ennemies?"

New Player (Obama) same old song and dance. Perhaps the Russians should propose a Missile Shield of their own in CUBA? This may be the only way the Americans will drop this Missile thing once and for all!

Yes, everyone knows how short of funds the Americans are these days. And its getting worse for them by the day. http://www.brillig.com/debt_clock/

But Tirana might be a better choice. Because it will have to guard the site free of charge (as part of its Nato obligations) unlike those unreliable Serbs up north. You surely don't expect Washington to cough up more money sending guards to its third site do you?
