PZ@1,

Brotherly love is one thing and business another. Serbs can do business with anyone, it doesn't matter as long as the products are selling in overseas makets, but Russia is family who will be there when our "business partners" try to steal from us.

Lenard,

I can say from my personal experience: Russia has the biggest support from the ones who belong to the bottom of the foodchain, not from who are on the top of the pyramid.

And here "your" Croatia is not much different. OK, save the faith (catholic versus pravoslav). Don't want to go into much details, but you know it.

How many times I got VIP treatment in Croatia... cannot tell. Pot calls kettle black.

… Konuzin says that there are those within the Serbian government that oppose cooperation …

To be less diplomatic one have to say that within the government there are those who back for cooperation while all the rest are just imitating progress and pitting sticks into the wheels. It is like my car where I have two kinda brakes and only one gas pedal …

Your figures are easy to explain cause they are almost standard for our trade with Europe. As for Serbian goods on the Russian market they need a good engine to replace the similar ones. In Russia it must a state engine but to start it Tadic have to settle here even if he is going to immigrate to Brussels. Otherwise nothing will change. The problems are to be searched in Serbia where main Russian supporter is in opposition while the two ruling Russian presidents are backing all forms of cooperation. If I were John Lennon I would say : ”Give Serbia a chance”

Russian Ambassador Konuzin says that there are those within the Serbian government that oppose cooperation between the two countries. Those feens incredible are they standing up for Serbia not to be ripped off or to be taken of advantage of by Russia. I guess some of them have a brain and don't fall over them selfs when Serbia and Russia are mentioned in the same sentence and don't say da da as a knee jerk reaction. like others in government who would sell their mama and baba if the Russians said it was a good idea.

“The ambassador also said that some Serbian products were not of a sufficient quality for the Russian market, which was very demanding.

According to figures from the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, total trade between Serbia and Russia over the first four months of 2009 has fallen by almost half compared to the same period last year, standing at USD 822.6mn. Serbian exports accounted for USD 95.6mn of this figure.”
Some brotherly cooperation you have the mr. ambassador. Russians drink different water; eat different food, etc etc… so Serbia’s products don’t meet their standards. Now I see why Russia is so interested in having this kind of cooperation with Serbia. Out of the total trade amount, 95.6 mn $ for Serbia leaving 727 mn $ for Russia.
