Both of these are taken from the IMF. Where do you get yours numbers from, then?
(Peter Sudyka, 22 June 2009 18:20)

Your numbers do not come from IMF. The IMF numbers for 2008 are different:

Serbia: GDP per capita 10.792
Albania: GDP per capita 6.859

Did you manipulate the IMF numbers "a bit"? :)

As per growth rate in Albania, there was a big discussion between several international institutions in March / April 2009.

While IMF set at that time the growth rate to around 7%, there were other Institutions who claimed the growth is around 10% (due to huge public investments such as the motorway to Kosovo).

What I wanted to show with my comment is that Albania is not as much behind Serbia as people in Serbia might think. And I am sure these numbers prove exactly that.

As B92 likes to call it Albanian-Language Press.

And I think Dr. Seselj said it best... "I don't understand this language."

Actually, here is a comparison of the two countries' economies:

Albania
GDP per capita: $6 000
GDP Growth: 6.1%

Serbia
GDP per capita: $11 790
GDP Growth: 6.1%

Both of these are taken from the IMF. Where do you get yours numbers from, then?

That Albanian state may I remind you hasn't exactly shown itself to be an economic, scientific, or even athletic power.
(Daniel, 22 June 2009 12:21)

Typical example of Serbian camp having build prejudices without looking at facts.

And if you want to talk about economy in Albania, forget your prejudices and do some research. The GDP per capita level is almost the same as in Serbia, while the growth rate is twice as much as Serbias in the recent years.

Albania was not a topic here.

Isn't it funny how some pro Albanians comment on anything Serbian? The fact is, that the civilized world has lived with a true Albanian state (Albania) for a long time. That Albanian state may I remind you hasn't exactly shown itself to be an economic, scientific, or even athletic power. Like the guy who identifies himself as hmmm, I live in the civilized world and in case you haven't noticed we aren't doing that well economically these days. It was because of some idiots in our so called civilized world, idiots who were after easy money, that the whole world is suffering now. At any rate, even at our economic worst, Albania itself doesn't even compare.

Contrast that with non Serbian population under Belgrade control. The difference could not be more apparent.
(Niall O'Doherty, 21 June 2009 22:26)

The civilized world did contrast much more than that in 1999. The results are well known for Serbia !

60.000 Slowaks !!
How did they arrive ? and when ?
Someone can explain me..Were this classical movements of people in the Austo-hungarian empire ?
(Luigi, 21 June 2009 20:22)

The Slovak peoples of Serbia mainly inhabit the province of Vojvodina which in turn was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. During Budapest's stewardship of Vojvodina, many Slovaks settled in the area.

Today the 60,000 Slovaks enjoy full rights unlike other minorities in KLA occupied Kosmet where 300,000 Serbs, Jews, Roma etc. have been ethnically cleansed from their homes. The remaining non Albanian population of Kosmet do not have freedom of movement, their human righst are frequently called into question from the KLA fascist authorities where they live in ghettos surrounded by barbed wire and guarded by KFOR troops.

Contrast that with non Serbian population under Belgrade control. The difference could not be more apparent.

Luigi,

They moved from their poor montainous regions to fertile half-empty Vojvodina after the expulsion of the Turks. They settled on land previously owned and populated by Hungarians before the Turkish occupation of 150 years.
