The draft summit conclusions say the EU decision "gives legal guarantee that certain matters of concern to the Irish people will be unaffected by the entry into force of the Treaty of Lisbon".

"This decision will not necessitate any re-ratification of the treaty," the draft says.

It seems to me that the Irish
want to continue with their freeloading at the expense of all the other members.

They want to continue enjoying peace and prosperity
with no contribution at all due to their alleged neutraliy.

How on earth can a country belong to a political union
-because that is what the Lisbon treaty is all about-
and opt out of its key foreign policy decisions?

I think the main culprit is the EU itself. It allows countries to choose and pick the policies that are convenient to them. Therefore,we have countries like Sweden,UK and
Denmark which qualify for Euro entry and choose not to because of fear that it will lead to loss of sovereignty.
Then you have countries like the UK which has opted out of the social chapter and Ireland that wants to opt out
of Taxation,military co-operation etc.

The EU should set new rules and conditions & should tell
those who are not really interested in European unity and peace should quit the club.

On the contrary what iam saying is that EU is not a golf club in which members and non-members play on the same turf.

The EU has got to make a choise about its direction and must connect again with its population.

There those countries that prefer the EU to stay as a trading block and those that prefer something more than that in terms of social and foreign policy.

If the present stalemate continues ie fudging all major issues,it will remain irrelevant and with time it will fade away.
