VS officers training in U.S.

Thus far in 2009, 60 Serbian Army (VS) officers have gone to the U.S. for one year of training, where they achieved a high level of success.

MB I agree with you.
If they want their enemy to help train them, then they should to go Turkey or Albania.

What is the point here? Do they think that Americans are that well trained? We all know how many die from friendly fire. I don't call that training at all.

Actually Australian soldiers are very well trained and the Americans can't hold a candle to them. Australian soldiers have respect where ever they are posted while the Americans are looked down on. So if they wanted an unfriendly country to train them at least they could be trained well here in Australia, but from what I know Yugoslav army was a well trained and respected army. Serbia is what is left of Yugoslavia and they still have that knowledge.

Maybe this is all political and there is method in this madness.

Were they taught modern waterboarding methods? Utility of "stress positions" during interogations? Hope so, because America has set the standard for intelligence gathering, and this may have been passed on to the Serbs. Look forward to kinder, and gentler intelligence gathering from VS.

I simply can not understand why Serbian army officers would go to USA for training.

It appears to me that the Serbian authorities who are responsible for this fiasco have no respect for themselves, never mind the armed forces personell of their country.
Maybe, the Serbian government really is in the Americans' pocket. I find the whole thing to be very sad indeed.
Shameless!

The US owes Serbia a lot ever since Serbs saved American pilots during WW2.Professional soldiers who have honor and integrity feel at home in any army with like minded officers. This is an excellent program and should be expanded to include every single officer in the Serbian Army. Many Serbs have called the US their home for several generations and the American people have absolutely no animosity towards Serbs. If anybody says otherwise they are lying.Shalom

"For example, US took over Saddam's army in a week..."
Brilliant

Ha ha ha! They sure did! Unfortunately there are millions of other armies in Irak for the Americans to fight. We see how well they are doing. That inteligence needs some improvement, to say the least.

"Von Tersch said that he was often asked why the U.S. was investing so much energy and money in the schooling of Serbian officers."

That's to have semi-Manchurian candidates if needed. For example, US took over Saddam's army in a week because CIA contacted many of their generals and made deals. They had a list of generals, their psychological profile and everything else relevant.
