Keyboard warriors? Kiss wars goodbye for as long as NATO is intact. Albania is in NATO so NATO is involved automatically in Kosova (and in Bosnia thanks to Croatia)
(Alb, 12 June 2009 19:34)

What has Croatia have to do with Bosnia or Albanian with Kosovo? Are you suggesting that these two giants will order air strikes against the Serbs? Wow, you really are living in la la land.
Nobody is attacking Croatia or Albania so they have no say in what goes on.

When will you learn that "my daddy is a cop so I can do whatever I want" is something only children say.

?? And today ex-terrorists from "Kosovo Security Force" will cover serb enclaves who was atacked by same terrorists in 1999 and 2004?? bwahaahaaahaaaa

No way - to the serb territories must return Serbian Police and Gendarmerie.

"In the wake of Kosova's declaration of Independence, the Serb propaganda spread doom scenarios, that it would cause war and ethnic cleansing, an armed confrontation with Russia - even the WWIII - and the total unraveling of the states around the globe due to problems with minorities, as if Kosova would be the single crucial point to make or break the global world order. Such melodramatic scare-mongering proved unfounded, unrealistic and far fetched."

LOL! Set up the straw man argument and claim victory! When President Wilson put forth the idea of self-determination it did not set the world on fire immediately but burnt slowly and gathered pace around the world until it became an inalienable right. Sure, as a concept it is safe but in practice it is a significant element in the many conflicts that have raged since with regard to minorities etc.

The world has fundamentally changed since 1989 and it is disappointing to read that some people still don't get it. You cannot rip up the old rules without consequence, which is something that the West decided to do when it had unparalleled and unopposed power from 1989 to ~2005.

The balance of power is shifting east to Asia and south to LatAm. The West has set a precedent it their total disregard for international law when it gets in the way of their strategic national interest so they now cannot honestly argue that other countries use the same practices.

It is only a matter of time before it comes back to bite them.

If Thaci can't keep his thugs in control when these 5,000 NATO troops leave, then it only strengthens the hand of those who say that Kosovo should be partitioned. Where's the victory in that for the Kosovo Albanians, or will it lead to them throwing another tantrum and threatening war in Macdeonia or Montenegro? They have much to loose.

I can see this all leading to further negotiations. Be prepared to sign on the dotted line my fellow citizens. K-Albanian self-rule on Serbian soil is a very generous offer after all.

In the wake of Kosova's declaration of Independence, the Serb propaganda spread doom scenarios, that it would cause war and ethnic cleansing, an armed confrontation with Russia - even the WWIII - and the total unraveling of the states around the globe due to problems with minorities, as if Kosova would be the single crucial point to make or break the global world order. Such melodramatic scare-mongering proved unfounded, unrealistic and far fetched.

The decision of NATO to scale down its presence is the best indicator that Kosova's independence has increased the regional security and decreased tension and it was the best course of action in the situation. Of course, there will always be Serb nationalists that love nothing better than incite war and ethnic conflict, however such voices are increasingly being marginalized, inside and outside Kosova. And that is a good development.

This decision is also a big round of applause to the performance of the authorities in Prishtina, that have proved to be a moderating presence and a sturdy provider of security in face of outrageous provocations.

Aleks

pre 14 godina

If the security situation gets worse with this cut then the blame lays squarely with Thaci and the Kosovo Albanians.

It will be further proof that their only interest is an ethnically pure Kosovo.

It will also make it much harder for those cretins in the European Parliament and elsewhere who continue to harp on about the 'multi-ethnic Kosovo' myth to continue to claim anything of the like any more.

The Serbian position is not contradictory in the slightest. The Kosovo authorities pay lip service to the protection of those living in Kosovo, only NATO provides some if only by its presence and that any inaction on their behalf would be a PR disaster for NATO (as it was in 2004 & 2008).

The only multi-ethnicity supported by the Kosovo albanian political clans is that you are either albanian or you are not. Tough sh*t if you are in the latter category.

I just love the orchestration here. We have Šutanovac claiming they should stay and Thaci applauding their departure. Both of these men work for NATO and are just spinning it.

Firstly, most Serbs will be applauding this because we know the truth. NATO is in the deep and can't afford to maintain misguided missions anymore. It will be great to see the back of those soldiers. Good bye and good riddance I say.

They are looking for an exit strategy to save some face in Afghanistan because they are getting their backsides kicked big time.

Kosovo is not stable and this exit is obviously premature. Our Southern citizens will be threading on thin ice if they don't smarten up because Kosovo's attempted independence has been based on bringing stability to the region. If this proves to be false then you can kiss your dreams good bye.

I can see this all leading to further negotiations. Be prepared to sign on the dotted line my fellow citizens. K-Albanian self-rule on Serbian soil is a very generous offer after all.

The word "since" is just denoting a time, and not a reason. So no one said that the improved situation is caused by the declared independance!

However, Serbian Defense Minister Dragan Šutanovac told the meeting that KFOR in Kosovo should not be reduced hastily, as security had not yet been raised to the necessary level when it came to Kosovo Serbs and other non-Albanians.

"German Defense Minister Franz Josef Jung justified NATO’s decision, stating that the security situation in the province had improved since the unilateral declaration of independence."

This is really important statement for Kosovo and its future. There were voices that Kosovo's independence would lead to violance and worsening the security situation in all the Balkans, but...they were wrong! So, this is another reason why Kosovo's independence was/is/ and always will be the best solution and another reason why Kosovo should be recognized.
