There is an ancient belief, among many, many, many people the world over, that to damage or especially to destroy the resting place of the deceased is to activate a curse against the person or persons responsible for such horrible, monsterous things. The ancient Egyptians even put written curse warnings in the tombs of the Pharaohs.

That one suspect is in custody does not mean that he is the only one involved in the crime or that he is even guilty.

All of these negative comments are premature and say more about the contributor's negative attitudes.

For someone with your background, who does not like Hungarians you have to admit that you subscribe them almost supernatural qualities.
(Joe, 7 June 2009 02:34)

That "who does not like Hungarians" was as funny as Moravai Kriszti's second comment.

If you think a bit, you will realize why I changed my mind: if a single "village's fool" is blamed - and so soon, that's a cover-up because he should posess as you correctly say "super-natural" powers. The only reason for the cover-up is if the vandals would mean a diplomatic mess. Other reasons simply do not add up, including "Serbio-Russian provocation".

Ataman,

I think you could also work in the entertaining business because quite often you make people lough. You are very fast to come up with theories. Few days ago - when this news was first reported - you pointed your fingers at the local "bored" Hungarians. Now suddenly you realized that you accused the wrong ones. Everybody makes some mistakes but in a second try now you found the real ones: those far-rightists, who crossed the border in no time, damaged 713 headstones in a nick of time - all this while heavily intoxicated by beer - and returning to Hungary without being noticed by anyone. For someone with your background, who does not like Hungarians you have to admit that you subscribe them almost supernatural qualities.

Ok, we have some, probably right wing guys who want to play the ethnic card.We don´t really know who they are. Could be hungarians, serbs, who knows? But it`s sure that they are neonazi crap! Don`t let them destroy Vojvodina!
(adrian, timisoara, romania, 6 June 2009 22:27)

All this looks like handwriting of "Jobbik" + "64 Vármegye", all they need now is a coverage. Tomorrow are the EU parliament elections and "Jobbik" has strong hope propelling Krisztina Morvai to Bruxelles. General elections comong up next year and they try every way (ethnic card is the best) to discredit the current (pretty poor) post-Gyurcsány government.

In that light indeed, what Serbia and Hungary seem to do (blame someone who is mentally in trouble and thus avoiding any political or personal damage) is pretty convenient. Morally a question, but this is somewhat like "damn if you do, damn if you don't".

Kosova-USA and Joe:

I agree, for one single man damaging 700-odd grave stones during a weekend is a very hard work. This indeed looks a bit suspicious for me.

What I am sure:

1) local Hungarians have pretty much nothing to do with it (why on Earth they would do it precisely now, damaging their interest).

2) The provocation from MHSNSR (Most Horrible Serbian Nationalists Serving Russia™) is equally unlikely - otherwise we would already know a long list of "guilty" local Hungarians, not one local fool.

I think, it is probably an "imported" problem and the police is in trouble how to avoid diplomatic issues at the moment they need the good relationship the most.

To understand, who and what - it's worth to read ramblings of Krisztina Morvai.

Before Joe would scratch his head, what did hit that politician(?) to became as she is now: she was originally a liberal politician, but she did not get the position she wanted. So she went to "jobbik". And as for last one... half of Hungary is laughing now, her husband is a Jew and from that perspective her crazy anti-semitic writing (in particular with all the details like "farkinca") is pretty pathetic to say the least.

To Milan: the ethnic harmony in most part of Vojvodina does exist to a good degree. This case has nothing to do with Vojvodina and nothing with the mainstream in Hungary. But it is a big problem for both governments to tell the truth: it was probably one of the "far right" groups which (despite heavy beer consumption) finally found Serbia and even more-less managed to cross the border before landing up in a detoxication center. See the organizers of Budapest riots in autumn of 2006.

That's the mental power behind the "large" groups supporting Morvai and her colleagues. The goal is precisely to provoke people with "CCCC", Joe and "Kosova" background and make trouble for Serbian and Hungarian governments.

I actually DO support the cover-up because it's precisely what they (Jobbik, M. Gárda, 64 Vármegye, etc-etc-etc) do not want. So OK, it was done by a single local fool and everyone in his village knows, he is a fool just out of mad house. Judge should ask the doctors to look better after their patient and end of story (for now).

BTW: democracy is a democracy, October 2006 of Budapest was largely unpunished, so are the rioters in Belgrade (who in protest against USA did beat Russian reporters). I am happy for that: rather few hooligans on free foot than innocent people in Goli Otok or Gulag.

I am a bit confussed by these reactions.
Serbs grave where destroyed and it's seen as an prelude to ethnic cleansing of hungarians?
Strange conclusion to say the least. Then another reaction claiming the oposite that Tadic and the current goverment is actually pro Hunagrian and they are covering this up to protect those who did all this thinking these criminals are Hungarian.

A shame that this forum gets poluted by these kind of nonsense. This once again shows that B92 lets everyone get there say wheter they are Albanians or Serbs. And that B92 is neither under control of the U.S. nor by anti Albanian people from the days of Milosovic.

I hope the police finds those responsible for this act, no matter who they are. A shame they can't leave the dead alone, and for sadening many families.

No more self-rule!! This is the reason why Vojvodina should have no autonomy at all and become part of Serbia for good. Independent Vojvodina would be catastrophic for any Serb living in that region. Hungarians in Serbia,Romania and Slovakia need to get over the Trianon treaty.

When ethnically cleansed serbs were streaming into voivodina after operation storm-they were greeted with crowds throwing fruit and bottles. The police knew that the people throwing those items were aLOMOST ALL ETHNIC HUNGARIANS.

this most recent grave desecration is almost certainly the work of ethnic hungarians. The Hungarian reps in northern serbia(voivodina) need to come out and with one unified voice condemn this act of racist vandalism. They also need to get their little right wing children in check or someone else will!

the Serbian police need to act like police and speak the truth. No more cover ups so that some bogus ethnic harmony can be maintained.

If the Tadic Polic cover up the truth again-----they will be without jobs following the next election

713 headstones by one unstable man? I am just wondering when will they start to accuse the local Hungarians? It would be also interesting to know the number of dwindling Hungarians in that village and in the nearby area.

I assume there is no Serbian police anywhere in site, or either they are corrupt and they are turning their heads the other way.Or there is another possibility, this is a pretex to chase all Hungarians out of Vojvodina. Another horseshoe operation, just like Milos time in Kosova.
