Lupu declared at 08.00 pm that it's all gossip and he is not planning to leave the Communist Party, just wants to reform it, but he's unhappy that there are not enough people in the party willing to do the same. Radio Liberty confirmed that it was an error of interpretation.
In plain words that means Lupu is young and poorer than Voronin who's old and rich, so he realised that in the end his future is very dark so his trying to save his back.
More important is the fact that the vice-president of the Communist party publicly said that there was no proof found that Romania was behind the April 7 riots and that he personally "negotiated" that the EU and Ro flags should be put up on the parliament and presidency, "in order to calm down the spirits".
What clowns some FM and President of a certain "global player" look like right now :) Honestly I thought of them better (as profesionalism in doing their jobs)

PS Is April 5 elections, not May 5 as in the article.
