If you want to have electricity you can pay it.

To pay bills to KEK? No! Albanians werent paying their bills when we asked them, they failed to respect their serbian country for that reason they dont have right to ask same! So Serbs will not pay!

But you see this is not a donation. It's a negotiated price. It would all be signed sealed and delivered, so why not take it?

Peggy, who are you truing to full? Who exactly are gonna be the signatories? The Serbian state and who? UNMIK maybe, or EULEX? Well none of them are electric companies. The Serbian state for once will never want to have KEK as signatories as that would mean exactly recognizing indirectly. Can you find me one reason why KEK would want UNMIK and EULEX sign for them. Why would then Prishtina would want indirectly recognize Belgrade. See Serbia thinks that by playing these games it is outsmarting everyone else. It hasn't been the case this far. What solution could there be? Well maybe a Texas style energy market. One producer different delivery companies. KEK being the producer. If the Serbs in Kosova don't get manipulated again by Belgrade the could create a delivery company and deliver to the Serbs, after the company and not the average Serb buys from KEK. Yet for some reason I think the Serb are gonna find something else to politicize with this issue. And when this issue is solved they are gonna find something else to politicize, and then something else... Its their choice and their own doing. What matters at the end of the day is that they have the choice to whether have electricity or be pawns of Belgrade cafeteria politics.

KeK does not need Serbian donations of electricity. There is plenty of electricity to go around, as evidenced by the fact that whenever the Serbs pay their bills, they get electricity, and when they cease doing so, they are cut off. So it's a very simple solution, and it doesn't involve Serbia: PAY YOUR BILLS,A ND YOU GET LIGHTS TO TURN ON. That's it. Serbia is looking to score political points, and as usual, it is failing miserably.
(Tunxh, 31 May 2009 15:28)

Look at this comment above he speaks of paying bills and trying to make a political ploy out of this. Why pay the electric bill if i only get 4-8 hours of power per day? If they were recieveing continous power then there is no reason to complain but when power is exported to albania to make money well why pay. This is a classic example of a closed minded person. In the US if you dont' pay you don't get power, EPS wants to donate but Pristina says no? So there is really no rights in Kosovo. If i choose not to accept KEK power and i choose EPS what is the big deal? It is called Free enterprise. Some Dummy set off a bomb at Ben af in Ferizaj or Uroesevec however you want to call it because he was taking business from other folks well he rebuilt and was granted tax free status for a few years. Small business still lost. Now this horse dung about the Power. If Pristina wants to restrict the power supply to the Serbs then this is how you fix it. Offer a tender to another power company to provide power to Enclaves or who ever else would like to have a second choice of providers. State the stipulations clearly and let the bidding war begin. That is call free enterprise not a police state that the Pristina is trying to create. Make life difficult for the Serbs and sooner or later EULEX will force Pristina's hand. Either KeK provides unlimited power to subscribers who pay or cease to operate.

Great news. Now its official, K-Serbs' refusal to pay the bills is not because they can't afford it but because Belgrade is telling them not to do so. Johny, it IS political. No one is saying otherwise apart from certain arrogant Albanians and their pay or get lost attitude- how things change eh?

KEK have been offered a commercial solution - a good one. But they won't take it. I'd have thought, in the meantime, a private investor would like getting twice as much power as is consumed by a few hundred thousand given that the generating infrastructure is in a mess. However, for lots of reasons I think it unlikely there will be any credible bids for KEK from the normal players in that field. Maybe from some shysters or Albanian diaspora syndicate.

vermut

"Why not?"

1) Because it's discriminatory. You cannot have a utility company serving only Serbs, or only Albanians. If they pay, they get electricity from KEK. It's that simple. Dozens of Serb villages have signed this type of agreement already with KEK.

johny

pre 14 godina

So the Serb minister saying that they want to supply only the Serbs directly from Serbia because they do not want to indirectly recognize Kosova is not political? Not paying your bills because you think you recognizing indirectly is not political? Then how are you exactly being oppressed if you refuse to pay your bills because you think its bad politics if you pay such bills? You are consciously making a choice not to pay your bills and thus not to have electricity because of political reasons. How is this oppression? How is this not hypocritical when the choice of the Serbs is political and you accuse the other side of basing this on political grounds? The point is that as always the Serbs find every little thing they can to turn into something political. Why are other minorities paying this company and not making a fuss about it. Because they want electricity to watch TV, wash clothes, be warm at night. They realize the politic doesn't equal electricity. The Serbs think politics equals just that. Well let politics turn on their lights and their TV's and their washing machines, and their stoves. These people are being manipulated, and fooled. Even at the height of war we didn't refuse electricity because the company was owned by the Serbian state. It's stupid. This is not shoes we are talking about, where you can change them as you want and pick and buy the color and pair you want. It doesn't work like that.

Tunxh,

KEK import electricity at expensive rates because it cannot meet demand. Whatever the rights or wrongs of the current situation the offer to put 2x electricity consumed into the grid is commercially desirable. In fact, it is a gift and any commercial organisation making decisions on commercial grounds would agree.

Therefore, what is indisputable is that the decision, right or wrong, is not a commercial one but a political one.

Get it? In my view, using such a basic need to break the will of people is oppression. It seems plain that the Kosovo government want to force its will on people rather than trying to persuade them. And that that is more important than regional stability.

Arn´t all the KosovO electricity of serbian origin?

If so, stop sending any of it to the criminal head-chopping entity until they learn to behave as the rest of us do, in a civiliced manner.

Until then let the american occupation authorities in occupied "camp bondsteel" provide their clients with electricity. Furthermore, we should of cource negotiate directly with the occupation authorities NATO/USA, and not their hang around thugs, whatever they call themselves.

And yes, Bondsteel should also provide the serbs, it falls under the geneva convention, since they are their "Palestinians" now...

Problem solved! Give it some 2-3 years and the disintegrated empire will not be around anymore to do more harm in the world and the poor Albanians will have to negotiate and learn living with non-albanians again.

Not necessarily. KEK is scheduled to be privatized this year, and in order to get the best price for it, the company will have to show that it has contracts with as many users (paying, preferably) as possible.

RS Burns

An electricity company that struggles to meet demand being offered twice the amount consumed to be put into the its grid. Makes astoundingly good commercial sense for KEK.

It's very easy. K-Serbs DON'T NEED electricity from KEK. They need electricity from their own power company - EPS.

Not to worry, I'm sure they will be supplying some Albanians also.

The maturity of the current temporary institutions in Kosovo is faily low. There are some Serbians who have already said they would pay so long as they don't have to sign anything but that wasn't accepted. It just goes to show that this has been politicised. It's not just a matter of paying bills but rather expressing their frustrations of Kosovo's failed independence by punishing the provincial minorities. Time for some people to grow up I think.

vermut

"Why not?"

1) Because it's discriminatory. You cannot have a utility company serving only Serbs, or only Albanians. If they pay, they get electricity from KEK. It's that simple. Dozens of Serb villages have signed this type of agreement already with KEK.

BH_NYC

Great news. Now its official, K-Serbs' refusal to pay the bills is not because they can't afford it but because Belgrade is telling them not to do so. Everyone who's been complaining about Serbs' human rights being violated because they were left w/o electricity should direct their complaints towards Belgrade from now on.

RS Burns

Accept the offer. KEK wins. People have electricity.

Yes, a wonderful move by Chavez, and a good antidote to some of the ignorant anti-Chavez diatribes on this list.

However, can you remind us again what that has to do with this issue? Was Chavez supplying low income Americans in order to make a claim of sovereignty over the US, as appears to be Serbia's aim? And was Chavez supplying only ethnic Venezuelans in the US?

Either KeK provides unlimited power to subscribers who pay or cease to operate.

johny

But you see this is not a donation. It's a negotiated price. It would all be signed sealed and delivered, so why not take it?

(Peggy, 1 June 2009 15:28)
