"There's more than slivovica and vegetables involved here - tankers with gasoline come in from Serbian refineries and the gasoline is sold without any VAT being paid to the Serbian government. People drive up from all over Kosova to buy the cheap gas in Mitrovice, which may be good for the local economy but certainly isn't helping Serbia balance its budget.

I have news for you. The VAT is the last thing on Serbia's mind.

And you mean Albanians and their vehicles from "all over Kosvoa" actually get to enter NORTH Mitrovica on a whim? The politicians too? Amazing is all I can say ....

I fail to see how this is a bad thing, as commented here by the Albanians and their supporters. How is this different than other forms of road-blocking protests in France, Germany, Italy, or Belgium? And even if the border between Serbia Proper and Kosovo Province is known as a smuggling route, I can only imagine what passes across the Kosovo-Albania border, both now and in the past.

LOL. Serb "businessmen" blocked the road? Give me a break.

Good job Kosovo! This is how you assimilate and force the Serb minority to become Kosovo citizens:

1) By allowing them to build houses in the south of Kosovo in order to disperse themselves.

2) By finding good excuses to operate up north. At first, build a few Albanian houses. Then over time, do what you did today. Use the border checks as an excuse to expand your operations.

Fantastic my friends!

Serbian excuses to destabilise the region are getting more and more ridiculous everyday. The democratic world is not impressed but not too surprised by this behaviour. This is to be expected form people who pick Iran, China, Algeria to be their best friends.

Who started to destabilise region with riots in 80's?? An then second time with terrorist attacks in 90's??

yes it does Milan, these thugs had to put a minimal resistance until somebody tells them that they are cousing more harm than good to their objectives.

Kosovo is still what it was before the ottomans and before the serbians and before the romans, free for all people who want to live.

You can see, that North don't want any "independent" kosovo institutions on this territory. North doesn't identify with "independent" Kosovo.

"cracking down on smuggling activities."

It's not smuggling if you are taking goods from one place to another within the borders of the same country. I guess Eulex needs to know this and remove this joke for a border control. Eulex have lost similar battles against the Serbs over this before. It's truly amazing that Eulex want's to prevent some slivovica and vegetagbles to enter Kosovo from Serbia while they should be worried about the drugs entering Kosovo, and eventually the rest of Europe, from Albania.
