The EC will activate the interim agreement with Serbia and give the green light for visa abolition this summer, probably in late June, says daily Blic.

Not sure how a country leaves the EU, and what that means as far as the laons, trade and assistance it recieves. Or even if a country can be kicked out for not continually meeting the standards...but...

I hear rumblings about leaving the EU from the UK. I also wonder about some countries getting dictated to a bit and getting fed up with that and the people might want out of the EU. Then, several countries would reform the non aligned group and well...we're back in the 80s.

Or maybe not.

Nowadays everyone in Europe thinks there's no future without the EU. But what if there is? Eu-integration would make Serbia more prosperous on the short term, but it also would make it just one of a dozen other smaller countries. The EU might be very good for commerce, where the peace goes as far the consumers it creates are able to go shopping. I really hope that finally one country stands up showing the world this whole EU-thing is far below their standards.

We all know that the EU policy is to expand eastwards. If you are correct in saying - as you often do - that European nations have no choice but to join if they are to survive, then they really must do this.

Can you tell me your thoughts on what Russia, the most easterly European nation, would need to do (or become) in order to join the EU?

I should hope so. We all could do with more courtesy from the Americans.

Sure, and Biden was in Europe for a sightseeing holiday!

I honestly hope Serbia never joins the EU. That would be the end of our proud nation. We have been dictated what to do by, primarily, the Americans and the brits and we are not evern a part of the EU. I can just imagine what it will be like when we join. It's in their interest to keep Serbia week. Right now we are strong in oposing the theft of 12% of our territory and we have close to 140 nations behind us. This is an embarrassments to the "free world" and if Serbia joins be sure that they are then in a better position to make our lives a living hell.

'What makes you think the US is omnipotent enough to tell EU what to do?'

'My take is that a lot of people in the EU actually can't stand the Yankees!'

True, but irrelevant.

All of these "moves" mean absolutely nothing. It is all meaningless until the day Serbia is actually admitted into the eu and they ship euros to Serbia to distribute. These are tiny, valueless carrots that the us hopes will gain big concessions from the Serbs. I laugh at stories like this; anybody who believes them is a complete idiot. They try to compare mellowing dutch to Russia signing deals to build pipelines into Serbia. That is the second reason why biden ran to Serbia: the pipeline deal.

"Holland? Thank USA and you better do what Tadic promised to Biden: no illegal and immoral "parallel structures," accept "Made in Kosovo" products, and help with arresting the mafia clans in North Mitrovica in a peaceful way.

Otherwise, USA giveth, USA taketh. Remember, you are not "expected" by USA to recognize Kosova, but all EU aspiring countries must solve their "constitutional and territorial issues" first. Also 22/27 say Kosova in independent so be careful with the maps and "neighbourly relations." They are no coincidences, in fact EU the day Biden was in Serbia gave Kosova some 60 million Euros for EU accession help. Peace is finally coming to the Balkans.

Agim,

With extremists like yourself there will never be peace anywhere and especially not at The Balkans. You might want to tone down your rhetoric and behave more like a mature person instead of an American lapdog or spokesperson. Besides this, peace is not in the Americans interests. Without conflict who will buy their weapons and there will be no golden opportunities to build more military bases around the world.

I would beg Holland NOT to mellow their stance against Serbia. The Serbs might not yet realize it, but Holland's persistance of keeping Serbia's EU integration at a distance, is actually PROTECTING Serbia's national interests....something that Serbia's politicians seem to have trouble doing! Thank you Holland!!!

This is what politics are all about. I am very sure that Mr. Biden has told Mr. Tadic about this news, but god knows what he has demanded from Mr. Tadic in return.
You can call it dirty politics, but this is the world we are living.
