Yuo consider a success because nobody, despite of his/her ethnic background was not beaten up during this week in Kosovo????? That is a success indeed. You should think twice before saying something like this.
Dear Angelika,

Please when you read, it is essential not to take out of the context. If is not success that nowadays people everywhere in Kosova are not beaten up you really need to consider to educate yourself for the basics of human values.
Second if is not enough for you Angelika that no one was beaten up this week in Kosova I can ad easy one or more facts; how about one year, two years , three years, four years, etc that NO SERB WAS BEATEN UP by Albanians.

'Read any history book about Serbia...'

Well, that's really the problem, isn't it? Different books say different things.

On the other hand, the further away in time we get from the past, the more science learns about it. Population genetics is beginning to come out with some interesting information about the origins of the Albanians - why not wait for new facts rather than keep fighting over the old ones?

tunhx,

Serbs dont have to prove anything to you. There is bountiful evidence in KOSOVO that this is Serbian since the 7th century, where is the proof that Albanians were there? Where are your churches and cultural shrines?
You have none, because Kosovo never was an Albanian homeland and you are well aware of this fact. Your people continue making fraudulent claims of being illyrian or dardainian, yet are unable to provide a single shred of proof, none whatsoever. As for proof that Albanians came to KOSOVO from elswhere, this is well documented in historical record. Read any history book about Serbia under Ottoman occupation for 500 years, and you will find countless references to this fact. Also lets not forget Albanias service to Hitler during world war 2 - IE the SS Skanderbeg division, which butchered tens of thousand of serbs, jews, roma, and others, and expelled over 100 thousand more from Kosovo. During this period, thousands of Albanians illegally emigrated to Kosovo from Albania. Again these facts are well documented. KOSOVO JE SRBIJA.

You fail to point me to a source which shows that Albanians emigrated from Albania. Just because there was a Serb presence in Kosovo, does not mean that Albanians were not present there before the Serb migrations. You claim that Albanians are recent migrants.

You're right Tunxh, Albanians who are descended from the Illyrians have been in the Balkans since the Jurassic Period. The film 1 Million Years BC proves that. Raquel Welch was an Illyrian. After all the Illyrians were tall, blue eyed, had long blonde hair and their hot looking chicks ran around in bear skins battling huge man eating Tyrannasoraus Rex with their light sabres. Wow, boy wouldnt I love to be there at that moment in time.

Seriously, what do you call all those medieval Serbian chuches in Kosmet. The very name Kosovo itself is Serbian as are all your placenames. That should tell you something. And please dont tell me that those Churches and Monasteries are Byzantine-Illyrian. Your jokeshop 'Ministry of Culture' tried to pull off that caper but was shot down by the UNESCO last year. Remember that.

Kosovo is Serbian, the Christian holy sites are physical evidence of that. You know when you attack the heritage and culture of Serbian nation, your not just attacking theirs, you are attacking my Christian heritage too buddy.

"On a trip where my vice president pushed the issue of territorial integrity of two externally constructed political units, one would think that a way to strengthen the case against further partition would have been to visit Banja Luka and Mitrovica and speak to the representives there."

Mike Bosnia and Kosovo are not "externally constructed", at least any more than most states are. The modern republic of Bosnia was an organic creation of the multi-ethnic Bosnian Partisan resistance in WWII, representing the multi-ethnic nature of the place. The only "externally constructed" entity there is Republica Srpska, constructed via massive force of arms (essentially from the JNA) and ethnic cleansing of about half that region's population, creating a shape and size of "Serb entity" that had no ethnic, historic, geographic orm cultural validity.

Kosovo was also a distinct entity because it was largely Albanian within a south-slav federation, since Albanians were not south Slavs. This was a recognition in 1945 (and in more practical terms, in 1968 and after) of the injustice of the Serbian military takeover in 1913, when they had to brutally crush the resistance of the K majority. If you want to talk about "externally constructed," then don't forget that it is only this external military conquest that made Kosovo "part of Serbia", not any choice of the locals, and this conquest was then blessed by Serbia's external allies, Britain, France and the US.

Having said that, you second point, about Biden also visiting Banja Luka and north Mitovica, is not a bad one, especially north Mitrovica, given the real division that does exist in K (not so sure about Banja Luka - after all, he visited the Bosnian government, where Serbs and RS are represented equally - little point in going to BL unless he also visited specific Bosniak and Croat reps and entities)

(Ratko, 21 May 2009 19:17)

Right on. Tadic must go. He welcomes that man like he is a friend knowing full well what Biden has said and done. Why? What happened to Serbia? Has the younger generation take over? The younger generation doesn't have the necessary maturity and experience to know exactly what Tadic is doing. How long do Serbs turn the other cheek for?

Kosovo Serbs don't have much but they have managed to come out in protest. Where were massive protests in Serbia? Where were placards with victims' names and faces of NATO bombing? Where are the banners citing Biden's words?

Where was the disgust at laying out the red carpet for him in Serbia?
Like I said. Kosovo Serbs don't have much, but they have a lot more than the rest of Serbia. They have guts and are willing to sacrifice. All Serbia wants is an entry into EU in hope of a cushier life. Looks like they will learn the hard way.

'one would think that a way to strengthen the case against further partition would have been to visit Banja Luka and Mitrovica and speak to the representives there.'

This one wouldn't think that way. I'd say it was better to talk to the guy at the top, as he did yesterday in Belgrade. Offer him what he wants most, more flexibility from the Netherlands on the fugitives, a green light for visa-free travel, implementation of EU agreements... All in return for being equally reasonable about improving the lives of Serbs in Kosovo by toning down the hostility. Let's give it a while and see how it all plays out.

On a trip where my vice president pushed the issue of territorial integrity of two externally constructed political units, one would think that a way to strengthen the case against further partition would have been to visit Banja Luka and Mitrovica and speak to the representives there. But I guess that would have made Biden's trip too difficult.

Best to get a photo op in front of Visoki Decani than get a headache in Mitrovica.
