Roberto, here we go with the "slur" rubbish again. What slur? Please explain who said what that insults you so much.

Shiptar is a word that Albanians use themselves. It's an Albanian word for Albanian. I have personally heard John Belushi say it to describe who he is. Is he also guilty of a slur?

Get of your imaginary high horse now. You are the one who is ready with slurs and accusations. Take a long and hard look at yourself and what you write day after day.

The many serb Radicals do not make me happy in any way -- i oppose everything they stand for, and they and their pals have been responsible for so much human misery. for me, it isn't some kind of stand-up entertainment package, some bad joke; it is DEADly serious.

now here's the thing -- you have some of serbia's most prominent people (such as their most famous writer) CURRently making or writing these ethnic slurs against albanians. that is one horrible thing, esp. considering how widespread and pervasive these attitudes still prove to be.

but what for some of us is even worse is all of the bystanders, the supposedly moderate voices, that NEVER speak out against such slurs. never. day after day after they we hear the slurs, and never a discouraging word (xcept from the human rights community of course, sonia biserko and many other frnds and colleagues of ours.) but here, the only ones to take offense are outsiders, such as myself, or in this case, my pal Gospodin ataman. and we are not citizens of serbia.

this oppressive silence is the most damning aspect of serbian society, yesterday and today.

of course, the radicals and their frnds keep the world focused on all of the worst attributes of serbia. but the silent bystanders reinforce it with a vengeance.

there will be no change until serbian leadership moves forward, not JUST politicians, but writers, religious figures, military people, etc. and i fear we are very, very far away from that point.

Biden's words should be written in English and Serbian on banners and carried throughout the streets of Belgrade so that the west can see how civilized their Biden is and Serbs can understand just how much he hates them.

Biden knows it, that's why he said that Serbia will not recognize Kosovo yet. Yet is the opertive word here. He knows that Tadic is his man and instead of not allowing him to visit, Tadic puts out all the honours.

I'm sure Obama could've sent someone else and not this proven Serb hater.

Yes, the world should see who Biden is. Albanians, don't worry, it's not only Serbs who hate American administrations. They have plenty of enemies all around the world.

Putin and Medvedev will be welcomed the way the deserve and Biden should be sent back the way he deserves.

I really do like that Serbs are going to protest his visit. Keep up the good work Serbs, this just makes my day.
He will se that what kind of orientations does Serbia has. Way to go radicals, you're just making easier for Kosovo.

Albanians call themselves 'Shqiptar', meaning someone from the land of eagles.

As for the Serb protests, I hope there's many many more in Belgrade tomorrow, especially in front of CNN and BBC cameras for the viewers back in the West to enjoy :)

Šiptar [derogatory term for Albanian]

Not true. This is how the Albanians call themselves. Look at an Albanian language based map of Albania.
(Vermont Patriot, 19 May 2009 20:11)

That's precisely THE taboo-word. Never say it unless you deal with your closest relatives and they know, you are teasing. For any other purpose, this is one of the most offensive thing you can say.

The correct spelling is with a "k" sound and it's written Shqiptar. Serbs would write it (and pronounce) "Škiptar". That missing or not missing "k" is the key, make sure it's clearly pronounced and than no one will object.

PS

And what carrot is he bringing with him or is it just another stick to beat the Serbs? In truth Biden has very little leverage over Serbia the US has done it's worst.

While I strongly disagree with Biden on most of his "expert" foreign policy, I think Serbia needs to address why it was the EU that dragged the USA into doing their dirty work and continues to punish Serbia. I sincerely hope and pray for peace and prosperity for all Serbian people, but be careful of your "friends" in the EU. They have over a century of dragging the US into problems that they have created and are incapable of resolving. I hope the USA will some day elect leaders that will be real friends to Serbia, but it sure does not look as if we have yet don eso with the Obama/Biden/Clinton troika.

Great! Biden should be reminded that everyone is not enthusiastic about his visit. Can't believe the Americans choose to send him. What's even worse is that our government decided to accept him. For what? So that we should listen to his lectures about what needs to be done so that America can make money. If Biden really want's a solution to Kosovo and Bosnia he should pay off Mr Tadic and the rest of the current Serbian government. To them there is a solution to everything if the price is right. Serbia needs a leader like Dodik or Nikolic.
