'You think the Europeans/Americans would give up the defence of the European continent so that the Russians would recognize Kosovo!!!'

No, of course not: the point of the WP article is that there's nothing to give up, the system simply won't do what they hoped it would, meaning it's not worth the cost. But eliminating this system is something Putin's wanted for years - maybe just to show how he can handle the Americans, maybe because he thinks he could be reconfigured to attack Russia someday, who knows. If he's offering to recognize Kosovo if the system goes, why not? There's a better chance of getting Kosovo from him than Abkhazia and So. Ossetia, I imagine.

'It's over guys! '

Well, that may be overstating it a bit, but didn't somebody here say a day or two ago that Putin said he'd recognize Kosovo only in exchange for the U.S. giving up that missile shield in CR and Poland? And then today: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/05/18/AR2009051803055.html?nav=hcmodule

A US-Russian team says - after studying the problem for a year - that it won't work and isn't needed.

The US taxpayer says: hurrah!

It's over guys! Serb govt is surrendering and it's just looking for face saving measure. How about "You don't have to take Albanian lessons for 4 months"?

Eastern Kosova is next in line to be "decentralized"

To have Minister Ivanovic suggest that Serbs might return to KPS with limitations and guidance by Eulex is counter-productive. Eulex, so far, has shown their obvious biasness towards the Albanians, so how would Eulex benefit Serbs returning to KPS??? And who are members of Eulex working for??? (Answer- the countries of Europe who want Kosovo's independence.) So far, the politics of Eulex have been different from the "promises" to Serbia only 6 months ago. Eulex has gotten it's "foot in the door" in Kosovo and every month they will be moving closer towards their "master's" goal of tearing away Kosovo from Serbia. Serbs only agreed to the Eulex occupation on the condition of Eulex accepting the 6-point plan. Where is that "plan" now??? Gospodin Ivanovic- you are going down a very slippery slope- are you being pushed??? Please maintain your footing and your common sense as a representative of the Serbian people in this crucial time.

We’re not asking for a separate command chain, as Serb members of the Kosovo Police Service (KPS) have to be partially integrated, but their status has to be separate in the sense that we have foreigners as intermediaries at every higher level,“ Ivanović told daily Politika.

I am glad that Oliver Ivanovic is coming around and understanding that there will not be any separate chain of command. OK, we can compromise for the sake of prevledged democracy to have the middle man, but orders come from KP MHQ down and vice versa.
I would not worry about the middle man from EULEX, becasue so far EULEX officers are not doing a thing only having maciatos and looking to get entertained by some local staff(females with no morality) that is willing to do anything to be on EU payroll. You dont have to be professional language assistant to get hired by EU. This mission is a desaster. They are spending tax payers money for nothing.

Once you said you want a separate chain now you say no we want something else! Well, who really cares what you want, after all! Don't interfere in another countries' business. yeah yeah, I know, there will be some comments saying 1244 is still valid...

Serbs are returning. Ivanovic in panic!

Obvisouly he does not want to see any positive development.

Belgrade says multiethnicity not possible, when at the same time it is exactly Belgrade that does everything to sabotage any step towards multhiethnicity.

Do you guys in Belgrade really think that International Community does not see or understand this!? You sabotage everything and expect support from EU, visa liberalization, no conditions ?

"Malo morgen", as your Slobodan once said :)

Sounds like progress is being made. 2 days ago Ivanovic said Belgrade "insists" on a separate chain of command now they are saying there needs to be international intermediaries-- which is the basis of the EULEX mission.
