I hate to break it to you, but homosexuality is not considered normal in many countries outside the US.
(Peter Sudyka, 17 May 2009 11:39)

On the other hand, public display of nudity or affection in "normal" relationships is much more tolerated in E. Europe than in the States. Different habits and it is expected to be more sensitive what is on display during such gay parades. The goal is to demand being part of society, not to provoke the same society.

And if the society is different, than what is on the display should be different.

As for myself, I would on one hand demand more tolerance, on the other hand I would probably very happy to stay away from the area or even "disappear" for the day.

To Roberto:

1) please tell it honestly, if you would learn, the teacher of your children or if your kid is in army and his superior has "alternative" lifestyle - wouldn't be you worried to some degree? Or would be many parents of gay children in Frisco happy if their kids decide to chose the "straight" way?

2) Please tell the truth about the South Bay, not just about Frisco. Most people here have no idea, to what degree are conservative the Asian (Viet, Chinese, Indian, Iranian + few immigrants from Europe) dominated suburbs of South Bay and Latino-dominated downtowns. Because that's America, too. And there is an other America of Midwest, which is neither "your" or "mine" - but it does equally exist.

3) Please also tell the truth: how many in America do care about European politics. The recent immigration waves have nothing to do with Europe, the interest is minimal.

The majority of even educated Americans believe (reasonably enough), America's future is somewhere in Japan-China-India-VietNam area and America's trouble is south-of-border.

Moscow survived the Mongols, the Poles, the plague, Napoleon, Red October, Hitler, Stalin, the Soviet Union, Two World Wars and remains the biggest European City yet the moron of a mayor is afraid of a handfull of marching gay activists.

Let em march, let em get hungry let em go into a bar and buy Kvas and Borscht and let them support the local economy. The Universities will still be there the Churches will still be there and so will the government; there is no Gay invasion coming.

Roberto,

At least - unlike for your fellow Californians - killing gays is out of question.

Some of the Bible Belt can be proud of much bigger bigotry than East Europe.

(I hope that b92 can print the above link, despite my own tech limitations which are pervasive...) This is an AP story on what has transpired in moscow -- biz as usual by those "nice" police over there. over 80 arrested and terrorized. 21st century and this is what we have to witness. the struggle goes on.

my solidarity with the human rights protesters, and esp. with those who have been arrested and terrorized.

Thr beat goes on in "democratic" russia.

my solidarity with all those who are involved in the demos and organizing. even in russia, all people must be shown respect for human rights, regardless of all of the haters, extremists and all of of their phony-baloney excuses.

good luck, and hopefully with intl human-rights monitors and media, russian authorities will have to limit their usual repressive "enforcement."

and go! eurovision... (you're my #1...)
