For your sake, I hope you your identity isn't only through Kosova. No EU means no visas, no aid, nothing, but I agree, go with Russia
(Agim, 15 May 2009 12:59)

You forget Hugo Chavez who has visa-free travel with EU and he is not in the EU.

It is far more important to retain Serbia's identity through its southern province of Kosovo and Metohija for the present and future generations of Serbia's citizens and its diaspora than it is to grovel to a complicated European Union ideology!
After so much suffering Serbia has the right to remain neutral, with respect to both east and west.

The outcome of the ICJ -international law hearing will be defacto partition at the very least, with the Ibar serving as a boundary. To the detriment of Feiths mantra and dreams, the facts on the ground speak volumes.

(Lek Dukagjini, 14 May 2009 14:37)"

So what? The ones that did not recognize Kosovo will make sure that Kosovo will not get into the EU through the backdoor (they have veto power and your 22 nations cannot do anything about that (except bribing or putting pressure, but a country like Spain is big enough to deal with that)). So the choice is clear and so are the consequences. In your statement I can taste more desperation than confidence. Are things not going so well for Kosovo?

"EU Special Envoy to Kosovo Pieter Feith says that neither Belgrade nor Priština will be able to realize their EU ambitions unless they patch up relations."

Pristina's got more than needing to be more accomodating towards Belgrade if it wants to "realize [its] EU ambitions." There's that little annoying thing of it not being a real country and all....

"He stressed that “unless at least minimal cooperation is achieved—and Priština needs to do more there too—the Euro-integration process of the whole region will be much slower and more complicated.”"

-- That means reconstructing Kosovo away from its current parastate status. All the officials in Pristina think they need to do is run to the US for help whenever they need a bailout. And as long as it's being led by fly-by-night politicians who would feel more at home attending a Loya Jirga than a parliamentary debate, such standardizations will not be realized.

"According to Feith, the greatest challenge facing the authorities in Priština was establishing good relations with Serbia, which, he said, was a formula for both stabilizing the whole region and its ultimate integration into the EU."

-- That will not happen until the current batch of former KLA leaders in Pristina are either permanently retired or dead. Serbs are about as willing to cooperate with someone like Thaci as Albanians would have been cooperating with Milosevic or Seselj.

"He said that an equally daunting challenge for the Kosovo Albaninan government, "and himself" as the official tasked with assisting it, was the "issue of the north of Kosovo, and preventing a de facto partition" of the territory."

-- The north is, for all intents and purposes, a pipedream for him and the K-Albanians. It's pretty much a tacit understanding that the EU is willing to let BG have its way in the north in return for cooperation over other things. The fact that none of these jokers in Pristina have even bothered to cross the Ibar and address those whom they regard as their "citizens" shows that no one is really interested in bridging this chasm between the north and the rest. With decentralization a serious objective in Kosovo, the north could easily quietly slip into semi-independent status between Belgrade and Pristina.

If the choice is between joining the EU or give up our holy land of Kosovo then I hope we never join. Actually, I hope we don't join regardless.

Oh Yes Mr Feith... Kosovo's government need cooperation with Serbia to normal existence. Without Serbia province can't normally exist :)

Like people are supposed to believe that he cares or is unbiased! The stumbling block was always going to be that nothing could happen without Belgrade's cooperation or agreement.

Negotiation over status is the only way out of this mess. An agreed solution is the only way forward and as EULEX and the other internationals allow the bullish behaviour to continue against Serbian communities, the possibility to mend things and move forward becomes more remote.

MikeC

pre 14 godina

According to Feith, that did not meaning Belgrade recognizing Kosovo...but there has to exist at least minimal cooperation between the two sides on issues like customs and trade"

Wouldn't that be like recognizing Kosovo independence??? No, cooperation what so ever until the illegal Kosovo declaration of independence is revoked and international law is respected.
