What is with you lot and Hugo Chavez? You seem to be so obsessed by him. He's actually a decent poor sod not the horned, cloven hooved Beelzebub that he is no doubt portrayed in the right wing media from Washington Portland to Pristina.
(Niall O'Doherty, 14 May 2009 11:56)

Well said Niall. Anyone who dares to stand up to Washington is automatically some demond from the depths of Hell. I have seen a documentary by John Pilger titles "War on Democracy" in which he talks about that very subjtct. The propaganda used to discredit Hugo Chaves and others in South America was incredible. Everything that happened was staged and reported back to western countries in the format suitable for Washington.

That's why when I hear on the news about some demon from this country or that I don't pay too much attention. Not even Sadam was as bad as the western media portrayed him to be. You have to demonize someone first in order to gain support in destroying him.

“I thank Syria for not recognizing Kosovo. Same to Iran, North Korea, Venezuela and whatever other entities Jeremic has travelled to.”

While I don’t much agree with Niall Doherty, he is completely right about Chavez and about this ridiculous lumping together of an advanced democracy like Venezuela and undemocratic regimes like Iran or in this case Syria. Chavez has won more elections and referendums, hands down, than any other world leader, the whole time with virtually the entire Fox-style actively campaigning against him.

In any case, the method here is absurd. You’ll say that about Syria today, but if it recognises you tomorrow you’ll say the opposite. Just like Saudi Arabia, which is many, many times more repressive than Syria or Iran. Same applies to both sides using these kinds of arguments that you don’t even believe.

As for Syria, well, Assad may or may not have said those things as claimed by Tanjung. Sure Syria likely won’t recognise before the ICJ is over. But all we learn from the Syrian media is that Assad “underlines the necessity for finding Political Solutions to the Conflicts in Balkan Away from Sectarian, and ethnic Divisions.” It says nothing about Kosovo one way or the other: http://www.sana.sy/eng/21/2009/05/13/226106.htm

“Tanjug learned from the Serbian Foreign Ministry that Jeremić and the Syrian officials discussed that country's support for the summit of the Organization of Islamic Conference, currently chaired by Syria, to prevent the adoption of a resolution in which Saudi Arabia plans to call on the Islamic countries to recognize the independence of Kosovo.”

This is great news! In my opinion, what Jeremic is trying to reach through this visit is to somehow prepare Serbia for the new recognitions from the Islamic Conference members. He will say, look I did everything I could, but unfortunately Saudi Arabia is to strong, so…just like with the IMF.

Poor Vuk
He keep looking for support to these Bastions of democracy and freedom...Syria, Algeria, North Korea, Iran. I really feel terrible for the guy. He is minister of the toughest ministry in Serbia. I think he would have much more fun and success as Minister of Agriculture or the Environment.
(Tunxh, 13 May 2009 19:30)

and I suppose Saudi Arabia is a bastion of secular liberal democracy and religious tolerance. Seriously, you guys need to think before opening your mouth. You lot are looking quite ridicolous.

Well done to Syria and thank you to the democracies of Spain, New Zealand, Cyprus, Greece, Slovakia, Romania, Venezuela, Bolivia, Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, Chile, Uruguay, Ecuador, Indonesia, India, South Africa, Ghana, DR Congo etc. for continuing support for Serbia in its quest to uphold international law and the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the nation state.

Oh Good Lord! More of this neo-con, neo-liberal 'Axis of Evil' nonsense. Guys please give it over. That's so 2003. Lumping Venezuela, a democracy in with North Korea and Iran is a bit much dont you think.

gotta love the duplicity of serb political machine, its always these, shall we say... less than freedom loving areas that buy into the whole anti-western, anti-european and anti-american imperialist card serbia uses to ingratiate themselves to these particularly nutty places.

and then flip back to being "fellow democratic capitalist european" parters when they need a loan.

or flop to being traditional allies and brothers of mother russia when they need politcal support for the less than european perspective on certain issues.

a different face for every audience.

As an Albanian myself, I thank Syria for not recognizing Kosovo. In fact, we Albanians will bribe Syria NOT to recognize us. LOL!

Tunxh:

Serbian Foreign Minister is doing very well, but perhaps you need a refresher course on education for you are quick in your attempt to disqualify his work. Don't forget to list:

China, Russia, Slovakia, Spain, Greece, Cyprus, Romania, Brazil, India, Egypt, South Africa to name an additional few.

Perhaps your attention would be better served discussing the criminal activity of the albanian diplomat smuggling heroin in Turkey rather than a Serbian Foreign Minister.

Mike

pre 14 godina

Well, considering Kosovo now has the alleged support from Saudi Arabia, one of the most repressive and intolerant regimes in the world, I daresay Albanians can play the "we're supported by all the world's democracies" card anymore - particularly when they're relying on said repressive regime to speak on their behalf at the OIC.

"Syrian officials discussed that country's support... to prevent the adoption of a resolution in which Saudi Arabia plans to call on the Islamic countries to recognize the independence".

What is the view of the majority of countries in Islamic conference regarding Kosova?

Serbia think that it will get away with blocking tactics for ever...That is absolutely shortsighting and silly. The payback time in using these "tactics" will come soon. I hope Siria will not be allowed to split the will of majority in the Organisation. Serbia seem to get on extremely well with rough regimes such as North Korea, Iran, Siria, Algeria, Lybia. Good luck with love for the regimes!
