"Having the Kosovo's independence in the 1990s you might call it gloating then. But I can hardly see it as those 5 countries mentioned will have their decision making be of any value? After all haven't you heard how many billions the northern EU members spent on exactly the same countries mentioned in the 70s and 80'?

Their veto can last only as long they are not doing any damage to the greater EU.

Aren't you following the Slovenia and Croatia border issue???
(Dulo, 10 May 2009 20:59)"

You missed my point completely. My point was that these 5 EU members are in no hurry to recognize you anytime soon. And any one of them is enough to bar you from entry. So what if the other EU members invested in some of these members? They still decided not to recognize you! I should also remind you that the relative strengths of these northern EU countries have now been greatly eroded by the economic crisis -- they are too busy focusing on their domestic economies for fear of losing their next national elections!

The same, I must add, applies to the UN entry too. The Chinese and Russian vetoes will ensure that Kosovo be left out in the cold. And in case Pristina underestimates their resolve, it might want to look at Taiwan which has been trying unsuccessfully to enter the UN for the past 40 years! And Taiwan is a rich country unlike impoverished "Kosova".

Instead of gloating over Kosovo's imminent entry into the EU, you should try to win recognition from the 5 EU nations who had snubbed you so far -- because it takes only one veto!

Tadic, let create our Balkans Union and you will see how fast EU will give us the grren light for joining them. You can not join EU if you are creating problems to your neighbors every day and vise-versa. So settle the problems with your neighbors first and then talk about EU. I agree with some commentators here that say that EU have so many bad examples so far by addmiting some countries with unsolved problems like Romania who have been and is economical and social disaster and also Ciprus which is actually a divided country but not divided. When you see Balkans we all have these problems and EU is not going to rush this time I think so let's fix some problems that we have among each other and then we can move lot faster towards EU togeather as one.

"Who knows Kosova might just block Serbia's entrance. After all they are forming aliances with the east. The west sees Serbia as not to be trusted, I can see why.

Dulo,

Aren't you counting your chickens before they hatch?

Instead of gloating over Kosovo's imminent entry into the EU, you should try to win recognition from the 5 EU nations who had snubbed you so far -- because it takes only one veto! And frankly I don't think your prospects of convincing them are anywhere near bright. Serbia on the other hand is recognized by every single EU member.

As Serbia is nowhere in sight for EU membership after 5 years, this surely means another 8 to 12 yrs no EU.

Lets be honest here! Of course they don't want the Eurozone to expand. and it shouldnt! Just take a good look at how much the Romanians have ruined the chances for other countries with the intentions of joining the EU. I just came back from Paris, I was there in a bussiness trip and i couldnt beleive my eyes how many anoying and thieving Romanians are roaming the streets of Paris. I was told it is the same throughtout Western Europe. I think Romania's EU memebership should be relooked and frozen for the time being. Romania it's still a backward country and the sooner they realize that the better for them. I apologize if i offended anyone. I didn't mean to offend anyone.

Well Mr President, you must be very grateful to the Lisbon Treaty debacle and the financial crisis as they have provided you with the perfect - almost believable - reasons to explain to the Serbian people why your election promises cannot be fulfilled.

I am interested to know what your excuses would have been if these two reasons were not available.

If you sue some poeple, is it realistic to believe they will let you join their club?

It makes no difference who the ICJ will judge. Serbia loses in both cases. Five years ago EU believed the government of Serbia just needs some time to sell to the poeple that Kosovo is lost.

I was watching Euronews TV channel in the UK last week (mayday) it was reported that France and Germany are against any further expansion until the Lisbon Treaty is sorted put. Euronews also reported they wanted to limit any further Eurozone expansion. The same report mentioned Balkan nations waiting to join.

I think the EU has expanded too quickly in a bid to get nations into NATO. The UK is overwelmed by People coming in from Eastern Europe.

Tadic finally gets it "NO EU" membership for Serbia.

He was elected on the primes that he would get Serbia in the EU, there is no other reason he was elected. And now that he has finally admitted although not in so many words there will be no membership any time soon, I suspect the apposition parties will take advantage of this and demand new elections before Tadic's mandate is over which is probably the best thing for Serbia. And all that needs to happen now is for the ICJ to not give a clear opinion in Serbia's favor regarding Kosovo and Tadic's entire mandate will have been a complete failure which will probably make him one of the most disliked people in Serbia for the rest of his days.
