Kouchner has done it again. He knows who his pals are and where is bread is buttered. When he was SRSG in Kosovo in 1999 -2000, he really did nothing to help the plight of the Serbs in any way. Instead he chose to support his pals who waged a war of terror against an innocent civilian population.

This whole situation reminds of that game children play in the schoolyard. You know, the one where a big circle is formed by all the other kids and a lone boy is in its center. The boys have a volleyball that they throw around and try to keep it away from the boy inside the circle. The boy inside the circle tries desperately to capture the ball away from one of the other kids so he can be on the outside of the circle with the others. The boy who has the ball taken away from him must now be in the center of the circle and try to regain the ball. Usually, the only way the first boy can get the ball is if his older brother, the Judo Master, helps him, but he has a broken leg.

Lek Dukagjini - hold's no water? We'll see if that's the case when Serbia wins the case and you try to attract investment into Kosovo. As far as financial investment goes, Kosovo will be considered to be the financial equivalent of the black plague, and if it wasn't so important why is the US and EU pushing so hard for recognitions? Your masters know full well what damage an ICJ ruling in Serbia's favour will do to their "project Kosovo", hence their desperation.

Nik, that will happen as soon as Eulex with KSF take control of the North! Little by little Albanians will remember names of Serbs who might have committed crimes, either as civilians or soldiers like Croatia is doing. Serbs have started a dangerous game, about 5-6 KLA leaders can be arrested, how many Serbs were in Kosova as part of the army and police in 1990's? Croatia yesterday arrested 2 Serbs for possible war crimes in 1991!!!

Ceku went to Moscow in 2006 to try to persuade the government to support Kosovo's independence. He may not have had much success, but at least Serbia didn't think to request their best friend to arrest him. As it hasn't when he has traveled to other capitals. Must have been something about the timing that was different this week - that IMF membership, maybe?

Kosova-USA

pre 14 godina

If Kosova is province of Serbia as some on this site call it, why does not Serbia arrest all so called KLA war criminal? Why bother with arrest warrants through Interpol.

Mike

pre 14 godina

Well, despite Kouchner showing once again who the "daddy" is to the K-Albanian government (I can imagine Bernie acting like that angry father yelling at Ceku for breaking curfew and wandering around where he could get in trouble), I have to say I really wonder what would have happened if Ceku was arrested and exported to Serbia. No doubt the Albanians would be raising Holy Hell, and no doubt there would be immense international pressure to release him, and yadda yadda. I mean the smugness among our Albanians friends here is bad enough with Kouchner bailing him out.

But it's all ok. The West needs to keep up the facade that the separatists they allegedly helped were only innocent victims in the 1990s and that the warlords-turned-politicians are actually good Europeans at heart. Anyone Holbrook has a man-crush on must be sincere. God forbid the people they claim to be key allies in guaranteeing peace and stability in SE Europe actually turn out to be the dirty corrupt war criminals everyone thinks they are.

Good job Bernie. You avoided a major PR disaster. Probably more for Brussels than for Belgrade.

Sorry to disappoint you, but there is not a single current Serbian politician wanted on any Interpol warrant, only KLA Kosovo leaders. Sooner or later these KLA people will be stopped and sent to Belgrade and they especially dare not enter Serbia!

I agree with you on this one - not be cause there are no serbs that commited crimes against albanians, but because our leaders are not interested in catching serbian criminals and they expect others to do it, or not do it at all.

Shame to the Kosovan goverment for this, they should issue arrest warrants for every single serbs that has commited crimes in Kosovo, starting from the foot soldiers at the bottom to the leaders at the top. They should gather evidence for every K.serbs known to have commited crimes and then we will be able to see that quite a considerable chunk of that '250 000' K. serbs that continuously gets mentions, have actually participated directly in crimes that were commited against albanians during 98/99.

Declaring war on a country that arrests a fugitive? Guess that kind of makes sense for a place half of whose leadership are probably ex-KLA narco-traffickers.

Suppose you'll have to declare war on Turkey too, seeing as they just arrested another K-albanian 'diplomat' for making a delivery of 65kg of Heroin in a car with diplomatic number plates.

The title of the ‘article’ should’ve said “Kouchner saved the face of the Serbian people”. What would’ve happened if hypothetically Columbia arrested Ceku and extradited him to Serbia? Do you really believe that the Serbian courts would’ve been able to proceed with the trial? I don’t think so; the international pressure would’ve been so great to release him that the Serbian gov’t would’ve been forced to release him. I don’t think that would’ve been good for the Serbian gov’t. If someone truly believes that if Ceku was in the hands of the Serbian gov’t he would’ve been tried in Serbian courts is seriously mistaken. Therefore, Serbian gov’t is probably relieved that Columbia did not arrest Ceku and extradited him to Serbia.

Indeed they can Artan. Safe in the knowledge that they will go unpunished for their crimes as they served the EU/NATO Imperialist agenda in destroying Socialist Yugoslavia while JNA officers who were defending the Yugoslav state from foreign and internal agressors are hunted down and jailed.

Artan - Many former KLA soldiers are war criminals. We all know it, so stop writing like a fool that they are not guilty of any crimes. Only an idiot would agree with what you said. Both sides have war criminals, period. We all know the real reason why they can walk around a freely and that's because they are protected by the EU and USA. That protection won't last forever though.

As for reliable sources, how does Reuters grab you? the story is also reported in the Washington Post. Are you trying to say that you can't read now?

Agim - Tit for tat. So be it. If someone is a war criminal then they should face justice, whichever side they are on. Also, Tit for tat can onnly take place if you control your territory. if you lose the ICJ case then there is effectively nothing that the Albanians or EULEX will be able to do about JNA soldiers when they go back to Kosovo - they simply won't have the jurisdiction.

SimpleMind - you live upto your name. Either that or you have memory loss. It's well documented that the KLA were committing acts of terrorism well BEFORE the war in Kosovo. That's why it was on the USA's list of terrorist organisations - until they became useful for US policy!

If Mr Ceku would had been arrested and brought to Serbia, not only would it be decleration of war but Serbian leaders would be banned to enter Kosovo for the next 100 years. Just a thought.

Goran.

If ceku is so innocent, he wouldn't have been deported from colombia.... they probably don't like his bribes as much as the other smaller countries around the world.

He will be apprehended and put on trial for war crimes and he WILL rot in jail for the rest of his life.

Sorry to disappoint you, but there is not a single current Serbian politician wanted on any Interpol warrant, only KLA Kosovo leaders. Sooner or later these KLA people will be stopped and sent to Belgrade and they especially dare not enter Serbia!
(Canadian, 8 May 2009 14:24)

Damn, Albanians got some deep connections! The French foreign minister personally intervened? Wow. Serbia, I'm sorry to say this, but you have no chance against those kinds of odds.

We all know that all ex KLA can walk free with their head up, as they have nothing to hide, unlike the ex JNA soldiers and commanders.

Do you see the double standards at play? I most certainly do.

Ceku like the Snake along with Limaj & Haradinaj will one day be brought before a court to account for their crimes.

just another proof of non-sovereignty... =)

this simple criminal, he´s known to have been a night-club-bouncer by the way, had to be saved by big daddy Kouchner...

like our dear albanian friends love to draw comparisons about man and woman divorcing and similar nonsense, here you could call it the father once again helped his son to avoid getting caught.

oh, losing face is a terrible thing for poeple who would so very much like to be accepted as "politicians".

don´t worry Agim, justice will come upon you. sooner or later...

as for heroic serb-haters:

I remember how another "hero", Naser Oric, escaped to be heald accountable for his cruel crimes by hiding in women´s clothes...

that´s the kind of heroes we are dealing with, uh?

cowards..

Radoslav, the ICJ is ADVISORY opinion and it holds no water. Even Serbia said they will not follow it if it rules for Kosova. That's how important is.

If Kosova is province of Serbia as some on this site call it, why does not Serbia arrest all so called KLA war criminal? Why bother with arrest warrants through Interpol.

Next time Ceku will be a guest in another country where the police will actually arrest him. If he of course minds stepping his foot beyond the borders of Kosovo. What a feeling that must be to be hunted during the day by Interpol and in the night by the souls of people murdered.

Amer

pre 14 godina

Ceku went to Moscow in 2006 to try to persuade the government to support Kosovo's independence. He may not have had much success, but at least Serbia didn't think to request their best friend to arrest him. As it hasn't when he has traveled to other capitals. Must have been something about the timing that was different this week - that IMF membership, maybe?

Man, get your facts straight because it was Haradinaj the night-club bouncer, not Agim Ceku. Ceku served as an officer in the Croatian army during the war against the Republic of Serbian Krajina, and was military commander of the KLA during the 1999 Kosovo War.

Thanx a lot Kouchner, "a friend in deed is a friend in need", as they used to say :).

(Radoslav, 8 May 2009 10:10)

I do not think that Colombia is one of the countries that upholds the 'International laws', as the deportation clearly shows that. Also its not one of the countries that has a record of noncoruption, clearly some Serb official wasted some more of Serb taxpayers money.

More like rats running for cover - in this case courtesy of the french FM. Seems the new ratlines run through Paris, amongst other places.

Simple Mind:
Have to be a member of Interpol to issue an Interpol warrant, & to be such, need to be a country.

That rules fictional places like the 'wonderful world of Oz' & 'Kosova' out.

Pejoni:
Declaring war on a country that arrests a fugitive? Guess that kind of makes sense for a place half of whose leadership are probably ex-KLA narco-traffickers.

Suppose you'll have to declare war on Turkey too, seeing as they just arrested another K-albanian 'diplomat' for making a delivery of 65kg of Heroin in a car with diplomatic number plates.

Guess that's what is meant by 'diplomatic baggage' when one recognises so-called 'republic of Kosovo'.
