I found this comment from Financial Times "interesting":

"Some countries that refuse to accept Kosovo as a state backed its IMF membership, including Greece"

It is very possible that Greece may be preparing the ground for recognition later this year. They have been making incremental steps ( i.e passports) and now this. If I was in a betting business, I would say Greece recognizes Kosovo at some point this year and then Serbia promptly bans its ambassador to only let him back six months later.

So what exactly was Switzerland's status prior to 2002, when it finally decided to join, pray tell?
Amer

Ha ha ha! Amer you are forgetting one thing: Switzerland decided to join without any objections from any other country. Kosovo doesn't have this decision in its own hands and will also be blocked by 144 UN countries.

"NO RETURN TO SERBIA whatever the price".
EA

I think you are confused EA. No one is asking Albanians in Kosovo to PLEASE come back to Serbia because Kosovo is Serbia. It's not a choice you have. Kosovo is the territory of Serbia and those Albanians that will not accept that can move back to their country of origin, Albania. Those who want to stay are, of course, welcome to do so. Just like the Albanians in Presevo who would rathare live under Serbias rulen than in a Kosovo missmanaged by Albanians.

so, IMF has another victim in the name of Kosovo? lending money is a good business anyway...but, how can Kosovo pay? if its expenses exceeds the income??? they are saying that it is rich in coal...but the greenpeace advocates want to abolish fuel. what else does kosovo has? manpower resource!!!there you go...know wat i mean?

EA,

And what if Serbs in Northern Kosovo say: never leaving Serbia, at whatever price.

Can't you see that your YES is their NO. And the other way around.

So that's why we must stick to international law!

Yes, also in the case of Kosovo!

--The last time I checked Kosovo was not and will never ever bee a UN member.

You checked in the future? How did you do that? Watch as serbia is forced to choose: east or west. Once they do Russia will strike back. Of course Serbia isn't going anywhere near EU unless they recognize Kosova.

Didn't part of Serbia's "more than autonomy, less than independence" plan allow for Kosovo to join IMF and WB? The more capital that is pumped into the region, the better. You'd be surprised how little ethnicity and borders matter when people have good paying jobs.
(Miles, 5 May 2009 20:58)

Kosovo's sports organizations should also be allowed in world bodies, because that's what the "more than autonomy, less then independence" scheme called for.

Isn't it interesting though, Milan, that Serbia has so fervently objected to these sports organizations entering such world bodies? Even objecting friendly matches?

Talk about convenience in argument.

RE; Entering the "Right Clubs"

It seems to be that Berlusconi may of been entering the "Strip Clubs" which certainly were not the right clubs for his wife.

Simply that it needs the backing of the right"countries" and the right "people" if you want to enter the "CLUBS", as we all know that's the rules...
(Luigi, 5 May 2009 17:17)

This is true. To my surprise tough, in their infinite wisdom HSH (Hekurudhat e Shqipërisë) not just did nothing, zilch, zero supporting HK (Hekurudhat e Kosovës) entry into OSJD (ОСЖД) - but instead, they (HSH) continue to be a "non-participating" member, presumably because they can't afford the yearly membership fees. HSH seem to even run out of ticket blanks, they can't print MPT tickets anymore as they used to.

I would be actually pretty happy to see both HSH and HK (later in more transparent form, not as they are now) in OSJD or even more - but this just can't be more pathetic and shows clear lack of vision.

No wonder, HK seem for me just an other "quasi-privatization" (East Europe-style) after "clever" takeover from UNMIK.

Membership in the IMF is not important anymore since this organisation and the World Bank are obsolete.
China and Russia announced that they with their 3 trillion in cash will open up a new Asian Development Bank that will operate absolutely independent from the IMF which by the way is broke and has begged China for a 300 bln dollar injection.
The Chinese said "Nope, thanks, but nope thanks..."
If China continues growing in this pace it will surpass the American economy within 5 years which will have effects on all relations, including military relations...
Not to mention their project to build a new world reserve currency...
That`s what counts not the broken IMF...

It seems those right "countries" have not managed to get Kosovo into the UN. Lending money from the IMF deosn't make Kosovo a legitimate country. A country is not a country unless it's a member of the UN. The last time I checked Kosovo was not and will never ever bee a UN member. Joining the IMF is as good as it gets for the banana republic of Kosovo. You can dream but you can not deny the truth.

Just what the IMF needs- another true "bottomless pit" for valuable monies- especially with the West's economic collapse. Good choice, IMF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IMF and WB membership will be crucial for Kosovo on the principle that they are a member of International Organisations, with representatives sitting in the same building with Serbian, Russian, Chinese representatives, and they won't be able to do anything about it. Kosovo is establishing itself more and more in the everyday lives of more and more people. The only downside to IMF and WB member ship is that they are not affiliated to UN, however IMF and WB membership will give Kosovo permission to join the International Organisation for Standardisation and Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers. Even more International Organisations, where Kosovo will be able to represent and fly the Flag of Kosovo.

Luigi

Maybe but in order to achive the number of yes, Kosova needs some ballots from States that until now haven't recognized the "adios Serbia"...
But if it will receive the necessary votes..Serbia will be in the corner AGAIN as it has been in the last 10 years.. So What will be the lesson for Tadic & Co.?

Strange! Didn’t know that provinces can apply for membership in IMF. Maybe Vojvodina can apply too. I wonder what will Serbia’s FM, Mr. Jeremic, invent upon Kosovo’s membership, since as I recall in some news few days ago he was stated as saying that Serbia is successfully blocking new recognitions and possible membership in international organizations.
