I'm sorry I don't understand. B92 wins and award for something that they followed up, i.e. if it was not for the book by Del Ponte and the evidence already amassed and then hidden/destroyed, then there would very likely have been no investigation by B92.

You get awards now for NOT discovering a new story???

This is hardly 'Watergate'. Still, an award from the sugar daddies looks good if one remains ignorant.

bganon,
thanks for your answer. 'Support for Kosovo' and 'Support for KLA' are two different things. Kosovo is a much wider concept/entity than KLA, and KLA is a much different concept/entity/what have you, than organ trafficking.

I don’t understand; however it must be an award for the best affectation or allegation over a very painful and sensitive issue. My dear Serbian camp, the short memory is not of use at all. Even though I didn’t see Mr. Munter to have mentioned any colored house related to the award either.

i have a suggestion for your next award-winning, investigative report: locate that nice Mr. mladic.

also, locate those nice little mass graves of albanians from 1999.

those goals might indeed be worthy of some prizes.

Roberto, why do you resent Serbs investigating crimes committed against the Serbs?
Do you honestly think that it should be left to the Albanians? Who else is going to do it?
Don't worry about your brothers for they have a lot of support from their mentors and there was a lot of investigation of crimes committed against the Albanians.
So can you please tell us why is it a problem for you that B92 has done some of investigative journalism (what they get paid to do) about crimes against the Serbs?

Would you prefer that nobody investigates this perhaps?

In that case maybe you are linking two things that are not related: 1)Support of Kosovo by the US and 2)an investigative report by B92, on claims of organ trading crimes. I don't think it was galling for the embassy, because there is no contradiction between the two things.
(shq, 5 May 2009 20:13)

Yes, ideally, this should be a case. Supporting Kosovo without interfering in Serbia's internal issues is possible but not easy. Here the question is, what that word "support" does mean after all. But what was done by the U.S. was well beyond what any honest support would mean. It was an act of state-sponsored terrorism, endless lies and self-enrichment of certain private companies ( like Halliburton ) at the costs of local population. It was abuse of taxpayer's money, abuse of power and biased propaganda.

In that spirit, one would expect, any investigative reports regarding crime against Serbs would be suppressed. Amazingly, this one wasn't - probably because Carla DP is a high-profile person and they (i.e. the propaganda machine of the State Department) had no idea, how to deal with it.

Maybe this is some kind of "run forward" approach by the State Department. Their stance towards Serbia is pretty confusing and lacks consistence recently.

shq for honesty's sake to complete your numbers 'support of KLA (who presumably would have had a role in organ trafiking, if the allegations are true) by the US' 2 'the bestowment of an award by the US Embassy on organ trafiking'.

I do think that is galling actually, nothing special maybe, but galling yes.

'Contradiction' is your description. I would call it 'a little embarassing'. But in diplomatic language it registers, trust me.

Since you know so much about mass graves I suggest you locate the imaginary massgraves of albanians and write about it. Perhaps then you might become the first albanian to ever win something.

This is an issue the Albanians have mocked B92 for. Now B92 gets an award for this story, by the Americans. How ironic! Let's see what excuses and lies the Albanian camp will think of next!

bganon

Congratulations to the B92 team. I consider myself fortunate to be a good friend with one of them, and I can vouch for her professionalism completely.

It must be a bit galling for the US embassy to have to hand this award out for this story for reasons all of us know very well.

I hope a similar award is handed out to Albanian journalists who investigated this topic also. One should remember that if the story has substance, that these Albanian journalists put themselves in harms way in researching the story.

May collaboration between investigative journalists cut across boundaries and help us all move closer to the truth, however bitter it may be.

U.S. Ambassador Cameron Munter said that independent media helped uncover abuses of office, fought corruption, called into question existing norms and ensured a healthy climate,“ adding that without free media there was no democracy.

Agree Mr. Munter. Now go and tell your countrymen the same thing. Your own media in America should hear this as well as there is basically no free media of substance there.

Your propaganda machine has made sure that you own the important media there.

Is very funny that Mr. Munter in his coments doeas not mention Yellow house at all, now I wonder if b92 presented itself with award on so called yellow house.

Daniel

It must have hurt for Munter to present this award to Serbia, especially given the content of the award winning piece; I mean the US sponsored the terrorists allegedly behind those crimes. I also think his comment on media freedom is very interesting:
[U.S. Ambassador Cameron Munter said that independent media helped uncover abuses of office, fought corruption, called into question existing norms and ensured a healthy climate,“ adding that without free media there was no democracy.] Given the US bombed the Serbian news building 10 years ago, how can we take his comments about media freedom seriously?
