Someone needs to tell these people that electricity isn't free and that they should pay their bills. If they do this, no more power cut off. Simple.

Ian, it's not so simple. How many times do you have to be told that the problem is not just simply paying the bills.
Most people don't have jobs because of safety issues (they still need escorts to school or church in some areas) and some simply will not recognize any institution which sees Kosovo as a separate country.
This is not as simple as just pay your bills.

"They are serbian citizens - they can pay bills but to Elektro Privreda Srbija."

Then why are they complaining and protesting? They should be quiet then.

I believe it was as recent as possible that there was an ethnic Albanian village stripped of electricity for some time, the reason must be because some villagers weren't paying their electric bills. So therefore the Albanians & Serbs alike have to pay such bills as long as they have the money, why should either Serbs or Albanians be subject to ethnic favourtism even though I understand people struggle to make "ends meet".

Its alright folks saying pay your bills but this will do nothing to stabilise the Kosovo province. A solution is needed and reasons to be found why people can't or won't pay there bills.

As has been said before. NOWHERE in Western Europe would a monopoly be allowed to act in this way. So it's all very well saying no payment no electricity but what of those who have paid and get cut off?

Collective guilt is the policy here and it's quite disgusting and it is contrary for principles of justice an fairness. And collective guilt is hardly consistent with a modern democracy.

OK, this is getting out of hand. While the bills for the utilities must be paid one way or another, this is still a major problem with no solution in sight.

I couldn't care less about these political nutjobs trying to score some virtual points with whomever, but for goodness sake, there are innocent people caught in this mess that couldn't care less about politicization of the issue, and would rather have the utilities turned back on. For the sake of those people, *something* has to be done so that they don't have to suffer because of some jackasses that think talking to "Ministry of Kosovo" is going to pay them their utilities bill. To my Kosovar-Serb compatriots - start talking with KEK and strike a deal! Something - anything - so the children or the elderly or the innocents don't have to be put through this.

My thoughts and sympathies go out to those innocent people caught in this.

Please pay your bills so your neighbors wont have to suffer. KEK please rebuild your distribution network so Albanians wont have to suffer because of Serb reluctance to pay their bills.

Rationale of KEK is that if less than 30% of electricity provided has been paid for, ALL power will be cut to an area. If a power company tried to implement such a policy in Australia, government would step in as essential services MUST be maintained.

At least in a civilised society.

Regardless of the rationale, all K-albanians are doing by implementing this draconian policy is to force the serbs to rely on themselves even more so making 'pristina' less & less relevant.

Keep it up guys.

Cuttings during winter time should be banned. However, bills should be paid on due time in order to have a working economy, at the end of the day, everybody has to eat.

Soooo... pay your bills, it's only a question of money.
