Bolivia gang "fought in Balkans"

Two members of a mercenary gang said to have plotted to kill Bolivian President Evo Morales were veterans of the Balkan wars of the 1990s, reports say.

Bolivians obviously have big problem with the "exotic" names. This is the update:

- "Mario Francisco Tasik Astorga" is "Mario Francisco Tadic Astorga". Don't worry, the "other" Tadic has a valid alibi praying in Visoki Decani so he is not charged. Tadic, the mercenary could be even a Serb, not Croat. If that would make any difference.

- "Elot Toazo" is "Tóásó Elõd" (now he is going to dig himself in some deep doo-doo, I guess, "Tóásó" = "lake-digger")

- There is no such name as "Arpak", it is probably "Árpád".

To have Erdély at home was not that difficult (immigrate to Hungary). The guy was obviously Hungarian but the #4 comment about Erdély was 100% unnecessary.

The time-frame (1992-1995) speaks rather about disgrunted Ceausescu Securitate forces ("Szekus"). There were enough "Szekus" of any national background in Ceausescu's service and they would not have headache killing anyone: Croats, Serbs, Albanians... just be paid by whomever. If that's the case with that guy: good riddance of bad junk, no pity.

The fact of being actively involved in YU conflict is a strong hint to Securitate background. A common Székely/Sekler guy had/has no training of any kind and usually is over-happy to skip the (whatever) army... not join some paramilitaries for fun!

Gustave,

You may have just good luck. And maybe a bit better morale. The recent death could happen anywhere - as sad as it is, what makes people most upset is the corruption scandal around the SAAB fighter jets - see the other link. This wasn't the first one - two others were in CZ and Bulgaria.

Here the two new NATO members should watch out for these "friendly" Austrians and the corrupt domestic politicians.

"The resulting shootout killed Magyarosi Arpak, a Romanian, and Irishman Michael Martin Dwyer, officials say."

Magyarosi Arpak sound more like an Unguri name than Romanian, perhaps someone had seen him somewhere in Kovászna in the past. This criminal knowing that the dream of having Erdély will never happen, decided to commit crimes against Serbs(1992-1995).

Disturbing news.

If it makes you feel better, none of hundreds of Albanian troops deployed in Africa and Asia since 2003 have died despite dozens of mortar attacks or mines sending their humvees 6 feet in the air. No wonder NATO approval is 94%.

"Mario Francisco Tasik Astorga, 58, another veteran of the Croatian war, and Elot Toazo, a Hungarian computer expert."

Yes, half of BP population has family name "Toazo" and "Elot" is the most popular name here, too.

I am thinking, someone somewhere seen a name like "Elöd Gyözö" - but had negative level of IQ and could not even copy-paste.

Also every second person roaming Zagreb is "Mario Francisco Tasik Astorga".

And I am Dalai Lama in disguise, inshallah, oops, sorry, o mani padme hum.
