Albania: "and you missed the bigger point: Serbia has to decide, are Kosovars its citizens or not? To get the visa free deal you must do certain things (control borders, biometric passports, fight crime etc) so that's why the issue is raised.
(Albania, 14 April 2009 02:07)"

I read the article and it clearly says:

"Serbian negotiators told European Commission officials that Serbia must issue passports to all its citizens and claims that this question is not a problem in the process currently."

So Serbia has already decided that Kosovo Albanians are its citizens.

"It amuses me how the pro-Kosovo Albanian commentors here miss the point about this issue. If this wasn't a potential problem for the EU then they wouldn't have raised the issue with Serbia."

It amuses me how the pro-Kosovo Albanian commentors here miss the point about this issue.

If this wasn't a potential problem for the EU then they wouldn't have raised the issue with Serbia.

Obviously a Serbian passport will be of value to a K-Alb if and when Serbia is in the visa free list. Whereas a Kosovo passport won't allow them to travel visa free.

To the Albanians, where does it say that the Serbs ministry mentioned Albanians.

A journalist with some contact with both negotiating teams mentioned in.

Also. To the Albanians, I think you should be aware that BBC and Birn have reported it

Zoran, EU is trying to send Serbia a message: Choose! Give Kosova up now and you might get visas

Serbs are just throwing their EU future away with these kind of ridiculous politics. You have to just laugh at Serbs and their confused thinking.

Europe eventually want Serbia in the EU, but definately not Kosovo. Cant you see this? Ask any European! Why do you think so many European countries recognized Kosovo? Is it to send people back there? Of course it is.

( Jovan) Teokarević told Danas daily that this is "just the beginning of the conflict between two issues that cannot be reconciled", in his words, "the Serbian decision to never recognize Kosovo and its wish to become an EU member-state".

Obviously it's merely an outsider's opinion without much (if any) weigh.

How many angels do fit on the top of needle, by the way?

let them travel to europe with their newly issued passports, ...many of them will end up in british, german or french prisons anyway.

but, since they are citizens of Serbia, they should enjoy all opportunities Serbia offers, IF they prove that they were serbian citizens before ´99 of course.

7,647 applications have been made, from a population of almost 2m Albanians. Could also be they are perhaps Bosniaks, Roma or Gorani. What makes this Interior Ministry so sure they are all ethnic Albanians? Since the Kosovar passport came out ppl are staying in line to get hold of one. And plenty are traveling with visa issued passport, my relatives are but it cost a bit. All you need is someone outside, and Albanians in Kosova has plenty of those living in diaspora. After all its we diaspora who keep Kosova on her feet, not International community or any one els since 90s.

"...two issues that cannot be reconciled", in his words, "the Serbian decision to never recognize Kosovo and its wish to become an EU member-state".

Absolutely right!. Serbia knows very well that there is no prospect to join EU without recognising Kosova as independent. That is THE TRUTH. All Serbian leaders are fighting for is a "salvafaccia" Italian saying to save its face.

I'm a Kosovar Albanian and I don't have a problem applying for a Serbian passport if it means visa-free travel to Europe. If there are extra benefits without obligations, why not have two passports?

It is interesting to hear the "sober" judgment of EU officials that if you include K-As in visa liberalisation you will have emigration but if you include only Serbs this will not happen.

It happens that Polish emigrate, Checks, Slovaks, Rumanians not to speak, Bulgarians etc tomorrow FYROM will be included in visa liberalisation as well but not Serbs, regardless the fact that Serbs already have large and much older historical emigration than all these nations that will facilitate the new emigration.

But if Danas and someone in EU is happy with it... we are all happy.

But don't expect to believe that social problems at least in Balkans are too different from on to another country.

Boy, this is ridiculous. I can't belive the Serbian officials . We have people from Kosovo and Presevo Valley travelling to Albania to get our passports, and these clows talk about Albanians getting Serb passports. Those few thousands people mentioned here are from the Serb minority in Kosovo. The number of Serbs with Kosovo documents is higher than these lol.

Alban

I dont live in Kosova, and here were i live i have friends from Serbia, Macedonia, Albania, Bosnia and all of us agree in one think, no matter which balkan state will enter to EU it will have same issue with imigrants becouse we all are in the same econimic level, we all in Balkan do not have money and good life.

In Kosova you have the youngest population, thats why we have more unemployed people, same in other Balkan countries unemployment is to high, and you get less than 150 euro per month and you work every day as a slave.

dan-ch

kosovo has its own passports that are recognized by all EU-member states even greece, slowakia, romania, spain and zyprus that dosnt recognize the independence of kosovo so kosovo albanians do not need serbian passports! it is just serbian propaganda! if kosovars want other passports than sure not serbian passports (better passports of ALBANIA) that is now also a NATO member!

Zoran

pre 15 godina

If Kosovo Albanians want to apply for Serbian passports they must be issued. They are Serbian citizens after all.

Now what kind of message does the EU send to these people when they suggest all Serbians and other minories are permitted into the EU except the Kosovo Albanians?

So what's the plan? Tell them they are independent, keep them isolated while integrating the rest of the Balkans into the EU? The racist nature of the EU probably means Albanians get to join around the same time as Turkey (i.e. never).

The sad truth is Kosovo would be emptied of Albanians in a matter of weeks if they were permitted into the EU visa free.
