The communist party has prevented Moldova from developing closer relations with Romania and the EU. I hope that the people of Moldova will remove the communists from power.

Moldova's government might support Serbia's territorial integrity, but I doubt the people give a damn. I suspect they are fed up with having no future, living in a failed state and having to escape to Romania to look for a better life. The government should simply resign, it has not achieved a thing since the economic meltdown of the 90's and has still not come close to solving the Transnistria issue. I think that at this stage, joining Romania is the country's only salvation (though I doubt Romania would want such a burden on their hands, they have enough work to do in their own country as it is).

Poor moldovans...
As a moldovan here in Italy has said if all the Moldovans who work abroad may have voted the results would be completely different..

So sad to watch this happen again -- to see the communists/soviets, whatever they call themselves taking power thru "democratic" means, give me a break!

i send my moral support to those brave young people -- be careful, but never give in, never give up...

the soviet era is not one that i long to revisit, altho with putin and co. it is all horribly reminiscent: poisoned by plutonium, killed by an axe in the back, shot down in the streets; the fun just never ends. its the "gift" that just keeps on giving.

as for detroit, i'm having a lovely time visiting family and frnds, and also vacationing from the "little angels" (middle school) in frisco (what is that bizarre fetish about frisco?

and Gambia -- yeah! keep em coming, and a heartfelt thank you to the people of gambia, whatever yr GNP. eyes on the prize...

and BTW, we've been to blgd at least 3 times, as i have often mentioned, as well as many other lovely cities across the balkans. and i have always had a lovely time, w/frndly, interesting and beautiful people. it is others, never myself, that is assuring everyone that i "hate" serbs or serbia. it is a lie, just that.

i am Not crazy for most of the politicians, there or anywhere else for that matter, obama being a MAjor exception (i think i have very often made my feelings about bush and co. crystal clear, here and to anyone else that would listen.)

as for that major "chip" on my shoulder, it really involves well thought out and deeply held beliefs, evolved over many years. but if you wanna talk about shoulder chips, day in and day out... please.

belgrade is a beautiful and in many ways enchanting city. though my frnd's comment walking down one of the rich boulevards: "trepka's working, blgd's building..." i think there is much truth to it and some ethnic albanian kosovar posters would probably agree.

They blocked the internet, the phone lines and the border stations. I fear that there will be a violent suppression tomorrow. Soviet/Belarus style.

Peter, Moldova became the poorest nation in the 1990s, when anti-Russian parties were in control. Moldovans have voted for the Party of Communists overwhemingly on three different occasions, in what even the EU calls "free and fair elections".

Let's not forget that the current government of Moldova is a big supporter of Serbian sovereignty and territorial integrity. The opposition parties want to join Romania which would certainly mean war in Transnistria.

These violent protests are nothing more than an attempted coup d’état by people who cannot win at the ballot box. The Moldovan people will not stand for this.

Youngsters just had enough. The soviet type propaganda is working at full capacity there and on some russian tv stations. What people does not understand is that the violence was not provoked by the youngsters, but by the same infiltrated commies that control the secret services and the police. Violence is against the moldovans/romanians interests.
This is a twittered revolt:

It is not about ethnic stuff or union stuff and is not even against Russia as some want to put it, it's just the youngsters see they have no future whatsoever.
BTW, state TV broadcasted cartoons all day there.

It's about time! Communism should no longer exist, it is a proven failure and has caused more misery to Europe than anything else! Look what happened in Moldova, the communist party remained in charge, the country became the poorest in Europe (even more than Albania) and a third of the population applied for Romanian passports (the idea that Romania is a haven for anyone just goes to show what a failed state this is!)

No more communism in the world and free Moldova from the Red Plague NOW!
