If Holland wants Mladic so badly, then they can go and arrest him themselves. Why use him as an excuse to keep Seriba out?
Obviously they know for certain that Serbia has him and is hiding him, so it stands to reason that they know exactly where he is.

Alex, Mladic is not a coward. He fought for his people. Without him Serbs would've been left to their own devices and God know how much more they would've suffered. Just because he is not willing to surrender (a very sensible thing especially to Hague) doesn't make him a coward. He knows he will not get a fair trial there and will most certainly share the same fate as Milosevic. Why would he do that when he has done no more than any other General defending his people.

Croatia clearly has not complied with Hague's demands. They are refusing to hand over vital documents. Why is there no pressure on them?
Can't you see that there is no justice but a lot of politics at hand here?

Mladic is a coward. If he ever cared about Serbia's future now is the time. He should turn himself in and face his accusers. What is the bigger picture here, one man or one nation's furure.

I do however disagree with the idea of holding up all of Serbia until one man is arrested, seems a bit unfair, did Croatia have to arrest all their war criminals as a prerequisite for integration or trade deals?

After within a year the Tribunal stops to exist there will be no formal pretext to prosecute Ratko outside Serbia. And I'd like to see a Serbian court of justice which will take a risk of putting him to jail.

If Serbia is lucky enough to start accession negotiations with the EU in 2010, then Serbia might join the EU in 2017 or 2018.

The people of Serbia should be patient since the accession process is very difficult.
(Mircea, 7 April 2009 13:22)

Yes, assuming there will be what to join in 2018.
Otherwise - as already wrote - for Hungary joining EU was (as I was told by many people) disaster for small business and workers, very good for fat cats in plush chairs.

I am more thinking, a border-less area + customs-free agreements are the way to go. Or even better: we in Hungary have much more vested interest what happens in Serbia, Croatia, Kosovo, FYROM than people in Portugal. A "better COMECON" (the old one was a sad joke) would make more sense. Besides, just look at the now-defunct Austro-Hungarian Empire. It was a whole thing, after being ARTIFICIALLY disintegrated all we did see was a pure economic disaster.

But since it would make a huge sense, that "East Europe EU" never will happen.
By the way: in such "East Europe EU" there won't be any second-class citizen or "gastarbajter": if I look at Hungarian villagers they aren't that much better of than villagers near Pec/Peja. But tell to Bavarian villagers that Romanians are not "second-class", they will revolt.

I am just a messenger on that, don't kill the messenger - but think twice about that Garden of Eden (= EU) where rivers are of milk + honey and fence is made of salami.

Mircea - 2020 if they are lucky. With this financial crisisi being deeper and longer than any since the Great Depression, the effects of this crisis will be felt for a long time. Also, the EU will have it's hands full with Eastern Europe, trying to keep them financially afloat as well as themselves. How are they going to afford regenerating the Balkans any time soon? They simply won't want to do it, so my guess is that Serbia and the rest of the Balkans will be left high and dry - i.e. no EU entry.

"Mladić arrest necessary for SAA ratification"

And whose arrest will be necessary for SAA ratification in Kosovo? Who will be held responsible for the ethnic cleansing of nearly all the Serbs and Roma from the towns and most of the villages south of the Ibar?

Who will be held responsible for illegally taking over 60% of the property of Kosovo from Serbs and Roma since 1999? Who sits in judgement of these crimes? Who sits in judgement of all the UCK crimes committed before and after 1999.

The answer is no one. Because the lesson of Kosovo is might is right and there is no international system of justice. It died with Kosovo. Of course, even the dog on the street knows that the people responsible are the US and Solana's boys!

Think, think, think.....the EU won't benefit the lives of millions of Serbian citizens until they "get their way" with the surrender of ONE man- who most Serbs realize was only doing his job as commander of the Bosnian Serb Army. And his job was to protect his people- as any military commander swears to do. Mladic did not start the war, nor did he cause as many deaths as NATO or the self-righteous Western countries (who are miraculously immune from any international court of true justice). And now they are telling us that we will not become "part of Europe" without giving up Mladic and Kosovo. For God's sake- who made the EU masters of Europe and of morality??? Let them keep their corrupt and evil empire to themselves....Serbia, don't lose your most precious soul!

Another "full cooperation" statement. It's getting kind of annoying as The Hague is not interested in cooperation, which is a two-way street, but compliance, meaning "do what we tell you". Next time maybe they'll send someone who can actually speak English (I give classes by the way. Anyone interested?)
