Daniel (#8),

Or how about "The Battle of the Alamo"? In a sense there are many similarities between this one and "The Battle of Kosovo" at Kosovo Polje and events like these form a nation's and its people's character and spirit. Remember the past, enjoy the present, and look forward to the future (the time trinity).

dfp,
People all over the world commemorate the past, such as in the United States when we commemorate independence day, or even Pearl Harbor Day (December 7, 1942). People must never forget the past else History may repeat itself.

"According to historical data, German Field Marshal Ewald von Kleist told a court after the end of the Second World War that the April 6, 1941 bombing of Belgrade had "political and terrorist, rather than military character".

"That aerial bombardment was a matter of Hitler's vanity, his personal vendetta," Kleist was recorded to have said."

And then history repeated itself in 1999. At least von Kleist was honest enough to admit the truth, unlike many Western and NATO leaders who will, unfortunately, most likely never be sentenced for their crimes against Serbia and the Serbs. My father told me the story that on April 6, 1941 his late father (a farmer) used a hunting gun to shoot at Nazi planes (from Romania) and that one actually turned around and shot at their house where various bullets hit one of the kitchen walls inside where they remained for many years (they may still be there). However, also let us not forget that the British and Americans also bombed Belgrade in 1944 on the Easter Sunday April 16, 1944 ("The bombing was performed in a fashion more savage than Hitler did it three years earlier on Sunday, April 6, 1941."). Of course Tito was behind this and unfortunately no communist or "ally" was ever tried for this crime. May we never forget the death of the wars that were brought upon us and may their sacrifices not be in vain, even at hard times when all seems lots until we will rise from the ashes again like a phoenix.

Do you think that the Brits commemorate and write about the start of the Battle of Britain from WWII? No.

Of course we commemorate the BoB with events like this: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/wiltshire/7628059.stm

or this

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/5348118.stm

So you cannot really say Serbs shouldn't commerate the attack on their capital even if it was 68 years ago.

The official name of Yugoslavia at the time was the "Kingdom of Yugoslavia" see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingdom_of_Yugoslavia

That is a fact.

Do you think that the Brits commemorate and write about the start of the Battle of Britain from WWII? No. It is time for Serbia to put the past behind them and look to the future. History can never be changed. With some luck, effort and positive thinking, the future can be influenced to deliver better opportunity for all.

I desegree with term " Kingdom of Yugoslavia", becasue there was no such Kindom, but yes there was Kigndom of Serbia, which was made up of Belgrade and its sourroundings (sic throughout).

What an utterly bizarre and pointless comment. Take a look at the map here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingdom_of_Yugoslavia. Since when were Ohrid and Koper in the Belgrade travel to work area?
