"Look, there is no chance in hell Kosovo will go back to Serbia, but there is a good chance that a wide recognition will be prolonged for decades if you don;t stop acting like idiots.
(Uran, 30 March 2009 17:07) "

first of all, with statements like this, you´re displaying some kind of immaturity that doesn´t suit you well.

as for the "wide recognitions": Egypt, a rather influencial country in the region, just gave it´s statement.

you should think it over again, who you call idiots, my dear friend Uran ...and better start to post reasonable comments.

Ron,
Just because we don't have a seat in the UN doesn't mean that we can't be prosperous like Taiwan!
(albanezi, 31 March 2009 01:27)

Oh this is precious. On what economic grounds would Kosovo be as prosporous as Taiwan. Organised Crime can not be used as an example.

I find it ironic that Serbia would rather Kosovo be called a UN Protectorate instead of a state. After all who is it that the UN has to protect Kosovo from?

As far as getting into EU is conerned, it's not a condition for Serbia to recognize Kosovo. This also has been repeated many times.

Bosnia...recognise Kosovo ''passports''? If that happens Federation should start recognising Republica Srpska passports.
I'd have to see that to believe it.

This is all empty talk, to appease people who have released that they are in a limbo and will remain there for a very long time. Russia will not give up its VETO and therefore Kosovo will never be a member state.

As for Muslim recognition, especially Arab, I find it unbeliavable that Albanians think they will be on an ageneda higher than Palestinians, and that for some bizarre reason, Muslim countries will betray Palestine and agree on recognising American country on the territory of Serbia, while Palestine still has no state.

Why do do Albanians and Albanian politicians failing to release this situation? Palestine has voiced its resentment to Kosovo, stating that you don't deserve the state as much as they do.
Wake up, please and pay attention.

To call Mr. Jeremic “boy” shows your true intelligence. Plus your comment is totally irrelevant to the above topic. I assume your level of educationand experience in foreign affairs and behavior in foreign houses qualifies you to make such a comment. And if we ware to compare “little” Mr. Jeremic to Mr. Hyseni it would be like comparing Statue of Liberty to little yellow slaughter house in Albania.

UN, the most useless institution ever created. Only five countries can make tough decisions, the others are there for the show. I hope my politicians from Kosovo understand that the only real benefit they can get out of the this, is the chance to meet with ambassadors from countries who have not yet recognized Kosovo. Quite frankly, I am very diappointed with the current administration in Kosovo. Somehow, they believe that if you say one thing over and over again it will come true. IT DOES NOT. You have to prove to the world that u are not corrupt, you care for minorities (which all of us should), you have to improve the economy by investing in local farms, and for crying out loud don't blame everything on the status.
Look, there is no chance in hell Kosovo will go back to Serbia, but there is a good chance that a wide recognition will be prolonged for decades if you don;t stop acting like idiots.

Watch EU do just that. Only Bosnia and Kosova are behind so they might bite the bullet and do it. In 5-7 years they will be at the same place Bulgaria and Romania were. A few billion are nothing for EU but can do wonders for Kosova. This way EU will solve it once in for all, no need to come back 5-10 years later.

FM Skender Hyseni was representing the Republic of Kosova in Czech Rep and in the UN meeting, this is a fact. The UN mission is downsizing from 5000 (2008) personnel to a mere 500 by the end of the summer (2009), this is another fact.

That EUR 3bn that IMF recently loaned is the reason why Vuk Jeremic was quiet and didn't perform his usual circus routine.

These are all great progressive steps. Now when Churkin, Jeremic, or Tadic speak about some ridiculous Kosova matters there will be someone to counter --- someone who actually lives in Kosova and is more well-informed then these Serbianna/Tanjug politicians.

Some of you may call our FM a joke but the reality says otherwise. Can you ignore the fact that more and more Kosovar Serbs are accepting Prishtina's authority and at mass are applying for Passports and ID cards? How about the fact that Kosovar Passport is more useful in EU then Serbian passport that requires visas.

These are a few things to consider, and we've only been a country a little over a year. The next is visa liberization for us Kosovars.

Once most of the countries in the planet recognise you as a country that is enough.

Serbia has taken the seat at Un after Yug. ceased to exist. I am askinf you all; What are the benefits of Serbia as a country with a seat at UN.?
Is it that you get to sit in those seats just like Kosova is istting now or what?

I believe China has indicated they would veto as well. Frankly, even if the ICJ rules against Serbia I do not see both Russia and China changing their position. If that is the case, Kosovo will never become a UN member. That's what happens when you play out your "aces in the hole first". You have nothing to come back with at the end of the game. The best Kosovo can hope for now is a draw, autonomy without independence.

Ian, UK - On the contrary, I think that the EU will make it more difficult for the Balkan countries to join the EU anytime soon. The simple fact is that the Balkans is mired in corruption, has a very poor infrastructure which would cost billions to upgrade, and politicians in the region talk about free market economies when in reality they protect their own fiefdom and interests. they have no idea what real free markets are. The Eu should use a carrot and stick to persuade reform, preferably much more stick until people in the region relaise that you can't sit oon your backside all day long and expect handouts from the EU to solve your financial problems.

Serbia,Albania, Bosnia,....etc, are all in the same boat.

Ian, UK

@ Radoslav

A country doesn't have to be in the UN to be in the EU. For example, West Germany joined what is now the EU in 1952 and it joined the UN in 1973.
However I do agree with you that Kosovo isn't going to join the EU in a long time, regardless if it is independent or a part of Serbia. The EU is rushing EU membership for the Balkans. I think the EU would admit that Romania and Bulgaria joined at least 5 years too early.

Radoslav

pre 15 godina

Two problems. Thefirst is that only UN member states can be members of the EU - in theory the EU could change the rules. The second is that at the moment the Eu needs a unanimous decision to allow states into the EU. This will only change if all EU states ratify the Lisbon treaty and that isn't looking likely soon either.

Kosovo as a "state" or as part of Serbia isn't going into the EU anytime soon. It's much easier to keep Kosovo (and Serbia) out, than to let them in, along with the rest of the Balkans (apart from Croatia).

So keep dreaming Mr Hyseni, it just isn't going to happen.
