I never said that the Taliban was set up with US money. It was al Qaida that was established with US money. The US government and the regime in Saudi Arabia organised the first ever pan Islamic movement of fighters to bring down the USSR. Osama bin Laden was even handpicked to lead the group. Read the book "House of Bush, House of Saud" by Craig Ungar,(an American) it is a well researched book and describes in detail what the US government and the CIA were up to in their quest to bring down the Russians in Afghanistan.

After the Russians pulled out, there was infighting in Afghanistan among some 7 different factions. The Taliban, led by Mohammed Omar, seized control of Afghanistan by defeating these factions. The Taliban was not funded by the United States but was a product of Madrasas in NE Pakistan set up by Saudi money.

The fact that the Taliban came to power in 1996 should be reason enough.

Some change!

Obama unveiled his new strategy Friday, calling the situation "increasingly perilous". A new startegy means more "surges" which means killing more people.

Who made Afghanistan and Pakistan "increasingly perilous"? The US government did. In the late 1970s the US government as well as the regime in Saudi Arabia funded, trained and equipped and established a terrorist organisation to fight the Russians in Afghanistan and bring down the Soviet Union. Today the US is fighting the exact same people they trained to fight the Russians! What an irony?

For Afghanistan also read Balkans where they also funded, trained and equipped terrorists in Bosnia and Kosovo, (even importing them from Afghanistan)

Now with Richard Holbrooke, that famous architect of the Balkans wars, leading the march in Pakistan/Afghanistan it is only a matter of time before he sets the tribal areas ablaze and there is all out war in the region.

And Obama promised change?
