1244 is not a straight jacket that can keep Serbia out of Kosovo forever. It is an interim agreement subject to a negotiated settlement. If the 'big' powers think that the UDI is the end of negotiation, then defacto that is an imposed settlement and 1244 is over.

However, if Serbia says those are the circumstances and that 1244 is over the UN role ends, NATO has no mandate and Serbia is the legal entity in charge. Serbia could send in its police (not army initially because that might be misinterpreted as being an act of war).

NATO justified its actions (questionably) on the basis of humanitarian intervention. Never trust NATO to intervene on that basis again - they will treat it as an invasion and a power-and-influence motivated land-grab.

Don't trust the EU politicians behind EULEX either - they are rattling the cages for their own power and glory.

The behaviour of the US and UK in particular in regards to Kosovo is terribly wrongly motivated as well as being legally questionable.

However, don't expect Serbia to behave in the way I describe above because it will go through the international court and it will also ensure that the priority is the economic well being of its citizens. However, that may not be the case in the future if the politics of the world becomes more fragile.

'Kosova' is not secure and a better solution would be a negotiated autonomy as described under 1244.

Pro Serbian poster's comments remind of an old saying which goes something like this: "should the chicken stop dreaming of being corn fed in the morning, it would die". So let's stop dreaming about 1224 guys.

The other point that I would like to make is that currently there are very few Serbs living in Kosovo for obvious reason, and I am sure most of younger generation of Kosovan Serbs who today live in Kosovo will want to move to Serbia (proper) for obvious reasons during their lifetime and will most definitely want their children to move to Serbia (proper) permanently (for obvious reasons again). Hence, in 2 or 3 decades there will most probably be no Serbs remaining in Kosovo. Please do not get me wrong, as I am not stating this as a good thing. I happen to believe that all the Serb who have left Kosovo should return, because Kosovo is their country too.

Whilst I do not think that it is prudent at all to refer to Kosovo as a “Serbian Province” any longer, it will be even less so in 2 to 3 decades time.

God bless …

Russia left Kosovo same as it entered it: over the night.

This is only the first step towards softening policies of Russia towards Kosovo. And no, they will not come back.

Russia is using Kosovo as a playing card for its real points of interest: defense rockets in Central Europe, its economic and military ties with Iran, holding the Nato away from Russian borders etc.

In order to get real results on those issues Russia will give up its contraproductive position towards Kosovo.

1244 is the sick man in New York!

EULEX's mandate derives it's legality under the umbrella of UNMIK (at least according to the soon to be ex-general secretary), & UNMIK cannot be disbanded, nor can 1244 be set aside without the agreement of ALL permanent members of the UN security council.

Welcome to reality & welcome to limbo.

i served with UNMIK. its very dissappointing that it bowed to pressure. The police stations in zubin potok, zvecan, leposavic, as well as the court buildings are in a very dire condition as compared to the albanian areas stations. this is a clear discrimination against the serbs.how can one expect a true reconciliation when there is discrimination? no returns of IDPs because the burnt houses rebuilt majority are below standard and have defects. security is unpredictable too.

Yeah, you're right. The Russians are terrified of Albanians.
This pullout just means that they will be taking orders directly from Medvedev and not some EULEX.
When they are needed, they will be back.

Well, then let's get rid of UNMIK and bring Kosovo back into Serbia.

It *is* a Serbian province, girls and guys. You may not like that, but hey, maybe it is time to face reality!

Sure it must feel good to have a sense of superiority but both of you, ask yourselves a question;

Who describes the reality better when talking, Jeremic or Mr. Hyseni?

"Boris Tadic has already hinted at much closer military ties with Russia at the expense of NATO."

Boris can't even get a bow and arrows delivered unless NATO wants to. Serbia is landlocked and 100% of its neighbors are either in NATO or allied with NATO so there goes that theory.

Ha! Russia just pulled its UNMIK police, and not even in your wildest dreams is Russia going to start a war with NATO over Kosova. As for Serbia sending its army: look at B92's economy section.

What transpired in the closed door meeting between Tadic and Ban the other day? Have there been any reports?

I suspect some sort of behind the scenes deal is going on.

Although I would dearly like to see action along the lines described by Konstantin - just to see the panic that would ensue. Plus he's right; if the UN reneges on 1244 then this could happen.

Kosovo and its KLA terrorist proxies are trying to eliminate UN Resolution 1244 which is still directly tied to Eulex.

Boris Tadic has already hinted at much closer military ties with Russia at the expense of NATO.

Need it be reminded , that under UN Resolution 1244 Serbian and Russian troops would be fully authorized to move into border points if EULEX and the UN fail to honor its mandate.

It's clear to me that Mr. Hyseni wants everone and everything that is non-albanian out of the province of Kosovo.
The plan is to join the Serbian province to the rest of Albania - a plan wich has US and Greater German suport.

Pathetic creatures, all!

Kosovo is a Serbian province ruled by the UN. So why should UNMIK retreat?

Is there already a solution or deal? No! So UNMIK should stay in Kosovo until a mutual (!) agreed solution is there.

Hyseni on Kosovo TV from NY, right?
I hope any Kosovo journalist can answer my question why you always (and only) interview your own politicians even when you have the chance to get important international personalities? I remember 45th Munich Security Conference, the only people they interviewed -in Munich!- was Kosovos president and someone from Albania, although you had the creme della creme of politicians there concentrated. I mean you have Hyseni, Sejdiu, Thaci etc. every day in, day out...

That's a great idea Hyseni.

At the same time when can put an end to the Hague Courts.

Furthermore, we can end the restriction of Serbia's entry to the EU.

We can also end the search for Mladic.

We can also allow RS to join Serbia proper.

Then we can clean up all the unexploded bombs scattered across Serbia.

Then all the EU and NATO members can pay reparations for the destruction of Serbia.

Then somebody has to make out a check to Serbia, for the loss of institutions, businesses and total land grab of Kosovo.
